Okay, I´ll make this short and sweet.

The guy I bought my car from installed the sound system himself, and in doing so, he said that he lost the wire for the dome light, so naturally he used another wire for the dome light.

Now, my problem is that the dome light will only work when the parking lights/headlights are on. It´s not that big a deal, and I know I could fix the problem myself, but I was wondering if anybody could pinpoint the problem a bit more for me so that I don´t have to go digging and tear apart my interior.

Okay, so I didn´t really keep it short, oh well.

Okay I am confused I don´t get how you loose the wire for the dome light while installing a stereo??

I have no clue, that´s what he said when I bought the car from him.

I´ll probably just get together with him one day and find out exactly what he did, or didn´t do for that matter.

well, I don´t know the answer to your question, but if you take off the center console, you can get at the parking brake switch... maybe you can see if he spliced off that line or something, and if worse come to worse, you can just tape down this switch and always have the parking brake warning light on, only even when the parking brake is down. That´s the easy fix.

Look under the dash on the drivers side to see if you can find the splice in the wire. My sister´s old subaru did something similar - dash lights only worked if the dome lights were on. took forever to sort out. this may be something you will hate dealing with.
