I just bought a 1998 escort for $150 yesterday and it has a dropped valve seat. This is the 9th head over the past 3 years that had valve issues. IT SUCKS.
Besides that the car is a 5 speed ac, great condition inside and out. I still think it was a pretty good deal.

would have been a great deal for me, I have a spare head in my basement.

$150 is a good deal either way.

Why not take it to a machine shop and rebuild it with upgraded valve seats.

It is only on the one cylinder, it was like that when i bought it and it only has 130,000 miles. All of the valves looked good when i took them out so it must have been a valve seat. I am gonna try and get by with just replacing the one piston but with my luck it probably ruined the cylinder wall. Great compression around 180 lbs on the other 3 cylinders
