I´m working late tonight - everyone´s gone home so I´ve got the music going. My office has a big window where I can see a panorama of Richmond, and the Manchester bridge crossing the river. I can hear the traffic and normally, it´s civilized. But every now and then, there´s the distinctive sound of VTEC. The funny thing is, I NEVER hear any other cars gunning their motors. It´s ALWAYS Civics and Preludes crossing the bridge. What is it about VTEC? I´d expect to see Stangs and muscle cars revving by. But no, it´s always the hopped up Honduh crowd. I like Civics and Preludes but jeez, does EVERY Honduh owner have to gun their motors?

I wouldespecially if i had 2000 SI with a cold air intake. I rev my engine WAY too much and I don´t even have VTEC, although i have VICS :)

Variable Inertia charge system. if you look at the left side of the engine it´s a vacuum that opens up four butterfly valves in the 1.8L EGT engine´s upper intake plenum at 5000 rpm or so to let in more air so that we can reach our max hp of 127 @ 6500 rpm and redline at 7000 rpm :-]

VICS... you need high velocity gas for the low end torque, and shitloads of air and gas for the high end HP.

Mine kicks in exceptionally low... instead of the stoc 5000rpms, mine kicks in at around 3900rpm or so, and has a loud, "psschhhhea" sound... but it doesnt sound like a turbo. Still, it´s great because when I pass people when I´m floored out in 2nd gear hitting near redline they´ll hear the VICS right when I start to pass and must be like - wtf?

Also.. does anybody have a broken BOV? I´m planning on making a fakey BOV out of an old paintball co2 tank, a max-flow regulator, and a clippard pilot valve... I figure I can rice it out a little for my homies :)

Angel eyes... how sweet is that?

its meant to be a joke, and it´s not like I´m going to be buying a kit... I´m putting it together ghetto style with broken parts and half a paintball gun.

And at least it isn´t a speaker, this is actual compressed gas I´m using, so the sound would be perfectly authentic too. And I´ve got a gas regulator, so I can literally get 14psi of boost "sound", or even 300psi of boost sound... LOL it would probably sound like a train whistle :)

speaking of which... the Air conditioning is really a gas compressor, right? Maybe I could hook it up to there, then rig up a silenced pressure relief valve, so I´d ALWAYS have a canister of pressurized gas, ready to be disposed of through my fakey BOV.... sweet. :) :-] :-]

So would someone mind explaing a little more about the VICS? You have raised my curiosity about it now. And siragan why does yours hiss? I never have noticed it to be honest or really know what it looks like. So basically what does it sound like and what is it exactly and what do you mean by kicks in I never felt a real boost in mine I don´t think. Please fill me in on all this you really have my curiosity peaked on this. Thanks alot guys :)

My GT does hiss when the VICS kicks in, and the power increase is significant... you can feel the torque gradually put your back in your seat as it kicks in. I don´t want to brag or exaggerate, but in all honesty, it feels like the power increases by like 25% when the VICS kicks in with me... although "feels like´ and and "actually is" are two different animals and I don´t want to lead anyone astray. And the low end in my 1.8L stinks, so maybe I just have lost my low end for some reason which makes the top feel all the more powerful. dunno.

As to why mine hisses, I dunno. From the haynes manual, the VICS is apparently in a "relaxed" state of open, and that the vacuum gas from the car is the actuator to close it. So maybe I have a vac leak and it´s opening early, but I don´t care... it "pssschh´s" from about 3900rpm-4400rpm, and it´s in full swing when I hit 4700rpm, which is when I need it for the top end.

Stryper John´s closed a while back - apparently the owner has a coke habit so he got closed down due to debts. Opened another shop a while ago but that closed too. There are only 2-3 other small shops that cater to the import crowd but they tend to be flighty as well.
