Yea, i know.. most people i talk to think that the aluminum wings look stupid, huge, out of place, etc.. i was just wondering if there were any that didnt look bad on an escort? preferably the smaller ones.. i am not a fan of the HUGE aluminum wings. i just want to get rid of that stock gt wing, the one from the 91 egt..

check this out: http://216.40.213.24/features/escort/index2.html

I´ve pointed this guys ride out a few times...here´s what I think you should do, get a wing that isn´t tall...as long as its short I think it can be quite functional and look good.

Try looking up "escort gt" on ebay. There´s one that´s been going on there for a month or so made by MeGan, it looks good, and its only like 65 bucks.

I was told the true idea of the wing was to keep the a$$ end down on the ground. Since the front wheel drive car pulls forward unlike the rearwheel that dips in the back. Thats why they put a wing on a lot of front wheel drive sports cars.

My old roommate had this HUGE aluminum adjustable wing for his turbo civic. The wing was so big it was a model for "Shopping-cart Racing" and every cop ALWAYS noticed the car because of the wing. His car was stolen two days ago, and recovered with nothing left.

I´ll admit with the front and rear strut tower bars, and the oversized antisway bars on the bottom, at 75mph his car was planted and had the best handling characterists...which is helpful at high speeds. They might not be drive wheels on the back, but stability at speed is important.

I´m not sure if I´m into the whole aluminum wing thing. I´m too used to laughing at the 91 Sentra´s with no mods but a wing in town. Here´s what I want to do. I like my little GT wing, but I do want to be different. I think I´m going to get a touring wing off of a 318 BMW. Its fiberglass so it wont have the "aluminum-rice" look and feel, but it will be larger and it will have the little winglets that go down on the sides of the car that I really want. I hope its funtionality will only help me, but if it doesn´t, its the way I want to make the scort look. I need to get the scort lowered first though.

Ok, proof from the guys at G-tech. I took this straight from thier web page:

The horsepower that G-Tech measures also includes vehicle aerodynamic drag. This means that if you tape over your headlights and grill, remove rear view mirrors and windshield wipers to reduce your drag, you will measure a Horsepower increase even though you didn´t make any changes to the engine. After adding an aftermarket spoiler you will likely find a decrease in measured horsepower, since you increased the drag losses on your vehicle.

Point is those one size fit all ricers wings are more of a burden than a help. If you were to take your car to a wind tunnel and actually design a wing that fits you car perfectly, then it might be worth it, but just sticking a huge protrusion from your trunk isn´t a good idea.

really, the only reason you´d put a wing on for functionalityis when the car is strictly for amatuer/professional roadracing, and as previuosly stated, those wings are custom made to fit the car so it does in fact help. having a wing on any other way is really just for show - to make it look nicer, or make it look ricer depending how far you take

myself, i´m thinking about replacing the small stock wing with a terminator 1 or 3 style
not the double wing one
