hey guys its fricken cold here now and i was noticing that my alternator seems to be going, or thats what i think

the only reason i think this is because when i turn on my car to warm it up, and the heater is on 3/4 it barely blows air its really really quiet, then if i give it a quick rev, the heater will speed up to its normal speed and stay like that

now this may be a blower problem or maybe thermostat (doubt it) but i dunno have any of you guys experienced this before

and i replaced my battery with a pimped one last winter so i doubt its battery

When my alternator went out the first thing I noticed was my headlights would dim at higher RPMs, because the alternator wasn't recharging the battery enough to power both the engine and the lights (I suppose) and the stereo was real quiet unless you kept it down by like 2k, which seems to be the opposite of what you're describing.

I found when mine was dieing the headlights would dim when my stereo was loud. Crank up the tunes during idle, and see if your headlights dim a lot... unless u have a good system, cause then they're gonna dim unless u got a cap. U can also go to most local shops and they'll do a load test for ya.

Please get your alernator checked right away. Often, people let it go too long and the battery carries the load, discharging it so completely that it won't charge up fully after. Before you know it, the battery is dead too. More cost.

Usually, an alternator starting to go can be noticed by dimmed interior lighting and wonky gauge performance.

Is it just the fan that's having the problems??? Like as it heats up... does it begin to work better??? I had that in something.... not sure what, but I found that oiling the bearing worked... not sure whether it was a car fan, computer fan, etc... but the fan sucked till it got warm, or till I oiled it.

what fan did you oil??? the rad fan, or like the blower for the heater

im gonna use lithium grease if i do this

oh and when the heater first starts up it makes a bad sound like a bearing is shot or something but then gets quiet after like 20 seconds

I still don't know what a pipmed battery is.

I'm also guessing that you might have the same problem that I did with the blower once where it got underwater because snow got into the vent intake and flooded it. If you look in the area between yor windshield and the hood there is a cavity where water runs into. It drains through holes in the fenders. When those fender holes get clogged, the water abcks up until it overflows into the air intake for the heating and air conditioning system. Once that happens the water runs down into the blower, and since the Escort has this plastic cover on it, it retains the water and eventually ruins the blower.

In my case I caught it in time and dried out the blower motor and then took the plastic cover and drilled a drain hole in it then reinstalled everything.

If the blower motor chirps at low speeds then that's normal for this and some other Fords, there is a TSB on it and you have to replace the motor with a new one to get rid of the noise (not worth it IMO).

I suspect that this is what happenned to you too. At least check it out and clean out the fender holes and then check to make sure that that area drains properly. This affects all cars over time (at least anyplace where you get leaves and stuff accumulating there, think if it as a small composting heap in your car).
