Hi Guys

I have a 96 escort lx 1.9L

Is it possible to replace the air intake system(air filter etc) to one from the 2.0L 1997-up 3rd gen escorts? Would it be a striaght exchange with out any issues or problems occuring?

Thanks,

Chris

The throttle body on 2.0L engine is at a different angle than the one on the 1.9L so It might not connect up properly.

u can use the 2.0 throttle body on the 1.9's. it will give u a 25% increase of air. if urs is an automatic make sure to get one from a 97 since those r the only one with the kickdown cable. use ur original IACV. also for the TPS, use the one for that throttle body, cut and splice ur wiring harness to the sensor. here's a pic of where u should connect the wires. hope this helps.

I wonder why you guys are talking about a throttle body when the question was about an air intake.

Also, aren't all Ford TPS the same internally? If so why not just swap the old sensor to the new TB?

cuz u mentioned the TB. the 2.0's TPS tang is about 90 degrees off from the 1.9 so using the TPS for that TB is a requirement. he might get by with the MAFS and AITS since he's runnin OBDII.

Agh! Everybody here is spouting ransom stuff that has nothing to do with chrisanthony14's question.

He was asking if the stock 96 LX intake tube and air box can be replaced with the stock setup from a 97+ 2.0L Escort.

What I was trying to tell him is that the place where you connect the intake tube to the engine is at a different angle on the 2.0L engine. The 1.9L points straight at the battery while the 2.0L points at an angle towards the front corner of the engine compartment. Thus, the 2.0 intake tube is molded differently to accommodate the angle. The bottom line is I don't think it will fit that good on your 96 LX.

No, the 3rd gen air unit has a huge 4" opening (pointless if you ask me) that the rubber tube clamps to. A junkyard would probably be your best bet for a replacement or if you want something better buy an MAF adapter and a clamp on K&N style filter, like this.

Can't you guys make your own air intake tube from something? My tube in all my cars need replacing, and i don't want to pay for all of them. If you could, what could you make it out of?

PVC pipe? Really, if you just need a replacement go to the junkyard. You can pick one up for under $10 and be done with it. You can also find new replacements on ebay.

if ur wounderin about my valve cover breather tube check out the pic
the end of that little filter wasn't big enough to fit on the valve cover so i put the tub back on, took off the end of the filter and attatched it to the tube.
