Hi pplz !

I´m posting this message because I would like to know if anyone have a good website which would explain all the components of the air intake....cauz...I guess it´s not just a filter hooked to a pipe and then hooked to the intake manifold....or is it?

neways hehe tanks if you take the time to reply to this post hehe :)

and by the way ...would it be good to place some sort of a functionnal scoop on the hood and then place the air intake in it in order to get some fresh and cold air ? i know they were doing it for the carb engine...but what with the Scort engine ? I´m asking cauz here in Montreal there is a hell lot of snow and crap on the roads in the winter season and i dont want to get my filters full of dirt and particules since its kinda expensive and a pain in the ass to clean !

Tanx once again for fulling my brain with your knowledge :)

On a 1.8 the air enters through a small bending tube just behind the drivers side corner lamp. it goes into the bottom of the air filter box, which is then filtered through the top of the box. After that it runs through the MAF/VAF (mass air flow sensor) and into that intake tube. From that intake tube it hits the throttle body, how much air gets through the TB depends on throttle position. After it runs through the throttle body it goes into the intake plenum, where depending on RPMs it goes through either 4 or 8 small openings to go into the intake runners, which then carry the air into the combustion chamber. This is of course the set up for the 1.8 which at 5500 rpm opens up four extra butterfly valves and allows more air to flow into the engine to let it rev to 7k rpm.
There is another component called the silencer, it is bolted to the top of the radiator and connects to the bottom of the intake box. You can take this out. Anyway, If you find someplace that can re route your intake then you can put on a ram air hood. At speed it would help quite a bit, especially in the winter. ;-)

The setup for LX´s is a little different, 2nd gen anyway, not sure about 1st or 3rd. Our Intakes don´t run across the top of the radiator, the air is sucked in from the driver´s side wheel well, which goes through the silencer (kinda pointless, just makes things quieter and slows the air down, while letting less air in) then goes through the air box with the filter.

Pretty much everything else is the same as what James said, except we don´t have the butterfly valves and what not.

No problem.

Also, just a warning, not to scare you or anything, but I´ve heard mixed reviews about the Pacesetter stuff. I´ve been told the header from a 1.8 will work quite nicely, although I don´t know for sure.

Anybody else have any thoughts for a header for our friend Electronikal here?

I don´t know what to do right now hehe...I´m meditating over this question hehee...i might try to get a custom header made by a mecanic school...the cost would be relatively cheap...but i wounder about the quality too hehe..might be good..might be poor...depending of the student i guess... hehe or I might try to make one myself...but then ahahaha...i guess it´s like "rodeoing a Nuke bomb while it has been lunched ! :) Im kinda low on the $$ right now ahaha
