I got a 94 gt and sometimes when I take off from a dead stop my 1st gear seems like a higher gear b/c it´s floored but barely goes and my muffler sounds like a harley. But when I get going like above 4-5k it´s fine. If I rev it up to above 3-4k before I take off it´s fine, too. Someone told me changin the plugs and wires will fix it. Any help??

Check your transmission fluid A.S.A.P, i scattered my tranny today because of the same exact problem, it had no acceleration, and would rev up to 4-5 and then kick into gear, it did that for about 5 weeks then blew itself all to hell, tranny fluid in the road , with chucnks of metal and gears laying all over it wasnt a pretty site, it blew today the same day i was planning on taken it in to get it taken care of, now its gonna cost me more then my car is worth to get it working again

Hadley I must disagree. I personnally oen a 94 gt and the spec is dexron III and yes you can check it. there is a speed sensor on the top of the tranny take out the one screw. pull the sensor out and wipe it as clean as you can. put it back in the take it out and look at the gear. if the fluid level is below the top of the gear add the needed fluid to bring it up to the top of the gear.

alright to clear some things up from personal experience many times. low fluid in a manual will indeed cause a decrease in acceleration and fuel economy and overall performance. not long before you wind up with a wonderful moderna art masterpiece scattered on the road. and not dexron III is not refered to as gear oil gear oil is an entirely different product and can be used in a manual transmission if dexron III is not available. I believe PTMD and I differed on the ability to interchange the two. there is a difference in performance and longevity in the two. gear oil will not last as long as Dexron III and the cold performance will suffer a little.

"Gear Oil" is commonly 80wt oil..it´s the thick monkey snot stuff. Dextron is more like 5wt oil.
Per Factory shop manuals and ASE training, these 2 oils are NOT interchangeable even in manual transmissions. The tolerance (space) between gears is much closer on dextron transmissions, and the added stress of squeezing this thick oil in the close tolerance will blow your transmission.

hayes specs dexron III for second gens. the thing to keep in mind about the gear oil debate is that the 80w breaks down under temp and actually winds up pretty close to the viscosity of dexron III at operating temp. but it is always best to use what is spec for your car. I would rather not get back into a debate over gear oil and tranny fluid.
