The AC compressor clutch appears to be totally shot (really noisy, just flopping around) on my 98 wagon, and that may have been the cause of my cut serp belts. Are the clutches replaceable? The AC system itself still appears to be good, lots of pressure still in the system, so I'd hate to have to get rid of it by removing the compressor just to get around the serp belt cutting problem.

Get the whole unit and remove the clutch and swap it.

I think you can just get the belt for an Escort without A/C and it will bypass the compressor. If you want the compressor to work they replace the clutch.

That is how I have it. No A/C but can move around but in summer is a pain. Very HOT. But car takes of faster. Faster Good.
