For a few months now my abs light will flash sometimes after I start the car. It only does this sometimes and it quits after I turn off the car and crank it again. The car brakes fine with no problems.
Check for a bad ground on the ABS system. I don't have ABS, but my airbag light would do the same thing. After I cleaned the grounds for the frt. sensors, the problem went away.
From what I could find in the '95 service manual, the main ground for the ABS module is behind the drivers side headlight. I'm not sure if it would be in the same place for a '97, but it's a good place to start looking.
Hope this helps you.
your brakes will always feel and work fine, your abs just might not be working and you might lock up the tires under extreme braking.
might be a bad ground, might be the wheel speed sensor or reluctor wheel is dirty/damaged/bad, idk. i wouldn't worry about it too much. most of us on here don't have abs and are doing alright
