A/C Compressor Problem

I just got my 1993 Escort LX recently and i am fixing all the minor prolems right. After locating the broken wires are rerouting a new compressor switch under the dash, i noticed that when i switched it on the RPM drops dramatically and if i dont give it gas it cuts off ... i decided to adjust the idle at the Fuel Injection line ... but once i get it to a "Happy Medium" when i rev the engine it starts to idle really high and RPMs drop really slow .... i was wondering if there is anything i could do .... please reply, email, or AIM to PennyBreedMisfit .. thanx
