    Hello,
I want to keep my factory radio/receiver in my 1999 Ford Escort Wagon. I replaced my rear speakers with Kicker DS68 6x8s. I had to angle the screws in but the speakers eventually fit. Now my new rear speakers sound worse than the stock speakers. Any advice? They sound somewhat distorted at moderately higher volumes and don't have as much bass as the stock 5x7s did.

Is this an impedance thing? these speakers are 4 ohms and I can't find out what the stock receiver specs are.

The speakers are 6-35 Watts RMS and 140 peak. But still can't find any stock receiver specs info anywhere.

Is this a Wire thing? the rear speaker wires are really thin about 24 guage. the new speaker manual says it is recommended to use 16 guage or higher.

    Any thoughts?

It could be that the stock stereo can't give the new speakers what they need. You can get a dash kit and wire harness on eBay for about 50 bucks then put a new stereo in, that's what I did.

You could try getting a better connection on the speaker terminals, maybe even buy speaker baffles.

If you want to keep the stock stereo. You could installer a linear line converter and install an amp to give the speakers a boost.

Just remember your stereo is only going to sound as good as your weakest part.

The factory radios in all 97+ Escorts are some of the worst that I have heard, it just doesn't put out good sound and no speaker or amp will fix that. You will get a bigger sound improvement from replacing it than you ever will from replacing the speakers.

Stock sound specs in an Escort? Crap. Anything will sound better then the stock Headunit. I have a cheapo sony headunit, when I first put it in the sound quality over stock went up 10 fold. The premium sound amp is a joke, it will barely push the stock 5x7's. If you dont have prem sound the headunit alone will not push those 6x8's. Pull the stock headunit out and drop it in the trash. Go get a Walmart special atleast.

Yeah I guess I will do that. I have a nice sony Cd player but I live in Chicago. I have the crappy stock radio and I guess because it is so crappy looking that I figured no one would break my window and try to steal it. I have had my car broken into three times already. The theives broke my window and stole my gym bag and my music bag on 2 occasions. Even with the remote alarm activated. I hate paying for new glass. With the CD player, it does have a removeable faceplate but I don't want to remove it every frickin time I go inside somewhere like say the store for 20 minutes. that is when I got one break in when I went into a restaurant. I guess I could look for a crappy Wal-Mart head unit too.

Sony really isn't that bad though. I did install my amp at the same time as the headunit. You can really make the stock speakers sing, premium ones atleast, with a bigger amp and better HU.

Wow, thats terrible. I would looking into something like this for the thieves.
