As some of you might remember i have been looking for another car for my turbo project and i finally found one. I gave up looking in Vermont due to rust on all the older cars so while on vacation in Tennessee i started looking for a car. After getting very discouraged from not finding anything near by that i was interested in, i found a 1998 Tracer in the washington DC area on my way back home. So here is what i got for $1000. The only problem is the windshield wiper motor has a stripped out gear or something so they work and the rear spring. Thank God for Rain-X because i got caught up in a rainstorm  luckily the gas station i stopped at had some for sale.

This is the worst spot on the car. It is dented in a little bit so something must of hit it and the paint fell off. Just a little bit of surface rust i will be fixing soon.

I haven't taken the wheel off yet to see what is really going on here but this is the rear strut, i couldn't tell what broke but i will investigate soon. I had to be carefull driving home

You can't really tell by the pictures but the interior is pretty dirty. No rips or anything, it's all in good condition, just needs a good cleaning.

The first thing i will be doing is replacing the old struts with Tokico S/R struts and some lowering springs. Then swapping the Autotragic out for the 5spd in my other escort. Im very happy with the car so far. Now i can't wait to start tearing this thing apart and finally putting my turbo to use :D

Edit: If anyone knows of the cheapest place to buy the S/R struts let me know.

I havent decided what i am doing with the other car after i take the transmission out of it. I was thinking maybe put the automatic tranny into the escort and drive it during the winter so my tracer doesnt become a rust bucket. I have thought about debadging the tracer but then id have to fill in the spot on the front bumper and paint it so idk yet.

Nice Tracer man! I found that bumper in our color a few months ago at the junk yard. I went back a week later with my van, and someone had busted the bumper getting the headlights out.... I was pissed to say the least.

Looks nice and clean though... swap some power options into it, and drive the hell outta it.

did it ever have a fob? Turn the ignition from off to accessory (don't blast me you know-it-alls, I am going on memory... too lazy to go grab the manual) about 8-10 times... if the door locks lock and unlock, then you can program your fob... if not... sorry 'bout your luck... gotta hit the junk yard.

true, but that bumper is wicked sick, im looking for one for my escort, but i doubt they had dark blue tracers :(

anyway that sounds like a solid plan if the slushbox is still good swap it and use it why not. you could even do that can sell your old scort for some cash

Well its been a little while since i have done anything with the Tracer but i finally got my parts in i have been waiting for. I ended up ordering the Tokico S/R struts

and of course you can't have new struts without new springs :)

Getting the eibach springs was a bit of a hassle. I first ordered them from an ebay store only to find out they never carried the product. wtf?! So after a week of getting the run around i finally got a refund and found them another place. Hopefully my wheels fit with these struts. Its a VERY close fit with the stock struts on my Escort so hopefully they fit the same on the Tracer.

Well i finally got around to installing the new struts and springs and I like the stance it has now. I think it will look good when i put my 17" wheels on. Hopefully I have time this week to start on the 5spd swap.

Decided to paint my seats today using dupli color fabric paint. I didn't realize that stuff costs $7 a can 8O I think they came out looking pretty good, much better than the boring old gray :D

Im not sure how I want to paint the back seats yet. I might do a blue and black like I did with the front or I might do all black.

I FINALLY got enough time to remove both trannys from the two cars. It sure wasnt a very fun project to get myself into lol but i think in the end it will be worth it. A garage would probably of helped out just a bit and made things go a lot smoother. This is my work area  Heck even an engine hoist would of been nice.

And just like everything on the escort the bolts holding the shift linkage in was rusted to **** So i got a little excited with the sawzall  I ended up doing a pretty good job welding it back together. I later found some black spray paint and it looks like new now

Pic of the new clutch.

Its a SouthBend clutch. And just to make things worse i was about to put the 5spd tranny into the Tracer and i open up my clutch box to get the pilot bearing and notice they never sent me one :( And just to add to my frustration none of the parts store had one in stock.(Imagine that)
And a pic of my donor car

Its somewhat sad to think i wont be driving the scort anymore. My plan is to just keep it for parts.

I got an idea today to paint my 3rd brake light. I was looking online for stuff and saw some 3rd brake light covers or w/e they are for trucks that say ford, chevy, dodge, ect. and got an idea to make mine say ford. It actually came out looking pretty nice. I took a pic once it got dark outside to show how it looks. A can of spray paint and some creativity can do wonders  I decided im going to debadge the car so once i get rid of the the Mercury emblems it will fit in better lol.

YESSSS!!!

you got the gift of taking something simple and making it sweet! welcome to the insane club  :loco:

great job on that brake light and yes debadge it :D I've debadged my whole EGT, it just says "GT" on the back hatch in the middle of it under the 3rd brake light, and the front emblem is gone too :D

it's amazing what you can do with a can of spray paint and I take it you also used masking tape?

beastly! I like it!

I actually just printed out a picture of the ford oval and cut out the letters with a razor blade. I then cut some small pieces of double sided tape just to hold it in place while i sprayed it. It was a very simple way to make it unique :D And as far as i know its still legal lol

Yes, that should be legal. The only way it would be illegal is if you changed the color, but it still shows through red.

you got more patience than me then, I took the front ford emblem out and painted the oval red to match my car, masked it off perfectly and sprayed the rest of the grill black, that was too long too much work for me ha ha. tedious stuff gets to me, but that's awesome how it turned out for you! how long it take?

and it better be legal it shows through red that's all that's required, I used red anodized paint on my front corners and they still show up amber, but look red with no lights on, they also reflect amber at night, so I'm good, and got rid of the ugly ambers up front!

man I kinda like that tail light the more I look at it and I hate the ford emblem :p I'd do flames or something :D GT logo anyone?! ha ha now I gotta do that to mine darn it! :) GT time.
