it wasn't a side by side race but more of a test...

my 98 SPI auto with udp, camgear at 10 degrees advanced, pots, k&n, and muffler pulled a 75 mph trap speed (cars has 111k miles on it)

my sisters 99 ZX2 auto, stock (me driving again) 68 mph trap speed (78k miles on z)

apparently the low end of the SPI is so improved by my cam gear that top-end HP did not matter with the auto trannies.

honestly, I could feel the zx2 start to pull good just about the time it shifted... I am pretty proud of my little SPI sedan today!

this test was done on the same stretch of road just minutes a part.
and to think, when I first got the car I almost went zetec.

When you say "trap speed" are you referring to the speed at the end of the quarter mile? I mean I know the zx2 autos aren't the quickest, but 68 seems a little slow. Just curious

first of all, I LOVE the cam gear... up form 69 mph trap to a 75 with a simple adjustment, of course I put the UDP on at the same time so it might have been the combo.

yes bird dog, that is what I meant by TRAP. I thought it seemed slow too, but i remember pulling 64 mph traps before the pots and muffler. the pots in combo with the gear are the two mods I've noticed most.
you got to remeber that the zx2 auto IS slow... I think if I swapped trannies, the 5-speed Z would still win because of top end. I don't think the auto even gets to use ANY of it's top end power. it just felt sluggish.

iscorticus,
I have a 97 SPI 5 speed, and i haven't been able to find a cam gear or a UDP or anything. Where did you get your's?

PS, what's a "pot?"

sorry, Jeff... the cam gear is just SO sweet.
I didn't like it at first but once I got brave with it it's the B-O-M-B

to Robo, the cam gear and udp are available at http://www.blackdiamondracing.com or http://www.escortfocus.com
oh, and the 1 inch shorter belt is too long, my A/c squeals like a stuck pig.(BTW that is Alabama talk  ) when I figure out the right size I'll let y'all know. POT is short for potentiometers. it is simply adding a variable resistor to the IAT (intake air temperature sensor) and the ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) to make the ECU believe the car is running cooler, and advancing the fuel and timing. the ECT is the better mod IMHO. but since I only paid 8 bucks for the pots and the wire(and had plenty of wire left over for side makers and other cool projects like the SPI actuator staus light) I would go for it and do both.
the how-to I used for the pots was found at http://www.zx2racing.com
under the "modifications" section. I think I might submit a how-to to FEOA.
