I recently got ANOTHER escort, this one is a 98, 2.0l SPI, runs great, except of its slight sputter around 1500 RPM's, and when cruising with to many accesories on. I have replaced the wires and plugs, air filter, and cleand battery and grounds. I did a drop test and am not losing power to anywhere I can find. The sputter is worse when you turn the AC on, which is why I thought electrical. Now I am wondering if the ac comp is going bad. Also about 45 mins after I turn the car off, the blower turns back on, (even if its in the off position) someone said its a AC thing, something about the condenser... Any thoughts...

AC problems

Under the dash passanger side is your blower it is pretty easy to remove ( 4 screws & like 1/2 a metal retaning ring ) just to the left of it is a resistor that is in the duct system it has 2 electrical connections & 2 screws that hold it in it cost approx $17 this controls the blower speed it might be going bad. You may also want to drop the blower & see if any water got in there sometines the cowl under the wipers fill up with crap & the drains get clogged because they are very small & water over flows into the cars duct system if this happened pull the blower dry it out it should still work ( PLEASE NOTE IF YOU BENCH TEST THE BLOWER HOLD ON TO IT WHEN IT STARTS OR IT WILL GET YOU !!!!!! ) As far as the low idel when AC is on welcome to the wonderfull world of escort to get my idle up I glued a .010 piece of metal to the throttle stop plate to raise my idle because there is a non adjustable screw that controls the idle. I now idle at 850 with or with out AC on .
