Hi everyone,

We've aquired another 97 escort (coupe) to snag the tranny out of to swap with our 97 wagon. (both are LX models) I've never done this (in a smaller car format) and have read the very small section in the Chilton's manual. So I have a few questions before i attempt this project. We have 2 options we are looking at. We do it or have a shop do it. The shop option is very entertaining as the cost will be around $700.

Lets start with the "we do it" scenario:
1. About how high do i need to get the cars up to remove the tranny?
2. Has anyone ever used the engine support? If so, is the car moveable with it on? for example, to load onto a trailer?
3. Any special tools that i may need?

Now the "have a shop do it" scenario:
I guess the only question here is #2 from above.

If we have a shop do it, we will need to get rid of the car ourselves, the shop doesn't want it. So what I was wondering is if we do this, could we keep the engine support part on there and load the old car onto like a 2 wheel Uhaul trailer and tow it back?

Thanks for your input and thoughts.
