I have a 93 Ford Escort GT with the 1.8 and I have a wrecked Escort with the 2.0. I don't like the 1.8. Can I swap the 1.8 for the 2.0? I know if I swap I will have to change both eng. and tranny together. What I am most concerned about is the computer and the engine and tranny mounting.

Yeah, you'll have to swap everything... but there's very little difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 in terms of output and reliability. If you don't like the 1.8, maybe you should be looking into other vehicles.

The 1.8 I have, I don't know about others, doesn't run the way I would like for it to. I didn't buy the car for a sports car and thats what it seems to be. I only paid $500. for it because it had a blown head gasket. I bought another 1.8 out of a 96 Kia Sophia and set it in there because it had less than 80,000 miles for the same price as replacing the head gasket. The 1.8 engine and tranny was made for quick response. I take off and the engine hits 3 grand real quick and I shift through the gears fast. There's no setting in 2nd and 3rd for awhile. It doesn't like it. I reach 3 grand fast. Doing 60 on the highway, forget it. I am at 3 1/4 grand on the tach. Also the 2.0 I have was in a 97 Escort I have where someone hit me and totaled out the car. The 1.8 is starting to smoke a bit. I figured instead of finding anoither 1.8 I have a good 2.0 with less than 100,000 miles so I might as well utilize it if possible. If I can change it out and anyone wants this 1.8 and tranny and trans axles, if I don't have to use them, I will be selling it. I figured 2-$300.00. I am in Washington state.
I thought I would have problems with the swap only because the 1.8 is a Mitsubishi and the 2.0 is the Ford. So you are saying they do mount the same? What about the axles from the 97? Will they replace the axles from the 93 ok? I think this is going to be a lot of work. If I don't get to swap the engines. I'll sell the 97 with the 2.0 for $700.00 if anyone wants to come and get it.
