Hello from Tampa FL its Cold down here this am .. yup FL is cold under 40 .. when the wagon is cold .. the trans does not work till warm..back or forward .. nothing no prob with oil or filter .. last owner installed a trans from a shop($1,000) what shuld I look for or do ? after it warms up.. it does run but somethimes stay in 1 helop

How many miles are on the car?
How many miles are on the transmission? For $1000 at a shop it's a used transmission.
Exactly how did you check the oil level? I'm thinking that the fluid level is low and that you checked it wrong (happens all the time).
Exactly how do you know that the filter is OK.

Does the "new" transmission have the transmission oil pump TSB fix?

I used the book pic for ck the oil and took it a shop also .. oil is clean perfect I paid $500 for the wagon . the last owner had a trans shop installed a trans .. dont know what it was .. but why not moving when cold ..

You did check the fluid level with the car warmed up, (driven at least 20 miles is best), and on a flat surface with the engine running and in park, and after going through all the gears, leaving it in each gear for about a minute with the engine running, right?


And answer all my other questions please. Sounds like you don't know the answers to any of them though.

Also at least look at the linkage.

Personally, I would never take a shop's word for it. I've had shops put in the wrong fluid level and otherwise damage a transmission. For all I know you have a clogged filter.

The "linkage" is something resembling a bicycle cable that goes between the shifter and the transmission itself. It's probably not your problem, but it's easy enough to check, so just do it. Sometimes they break OR sometimes when the transmission/motor mounts go bad they throw the whole alignment off and it doesn't work right (and that part could be temperature sensative).

Breaking news from Cold FL now the 1995 wagon is at the Trans shop in port richey ... they will be taking it out tues .. I will post when I find out !!!!! thanks everybody .. so cold the plasitc pipe broke last night and no water till 5 pm here in the house .. good thing we found a kerosene heater on Criags list ..

breaking news !

the 95 is back from Discont Transmission .. port richey FL ,,, running perfect now .. $$$$$$$$$ dont ask . Torque converter died .. but got a 6 month 6.000 warranty so zooom zooom started out with a $500 escort wagon .. now its over $2,000 but dont laugh paid in full.. I think this is the first vehcilce paid in full since 1977 !!! thanks for all the help guys

damn son, i'd rather get a TC from a self service junkyard. u can get any cheaper than that. $50 gets u a used transmission out the door in no time.

I bet most of the cost was labor, torque converters don't cost that much.
