yep, just had this exact same problem a month ago.
Open the hatch. Inbetween the hatch and the car, you´ll see a black rubber hose connecting the hatch and car in the upper right hand corner (near the hinges). Take off this boot by taking a flathead screwdriver and putting it inbetween the rubber and the car, then twist the screwdriver and the plastic piece should pop out. Take the rubber off the lip of the white plastic piece and slide the rubber off to the side. If my predictions are correct (and of course they always are
) you should see (I think there are 12) very frayed and some broken wires. These are the wires to the things like the rear defrost and the wiper. Just grab your soldering gun and a free hour of your time, and connect the wires (connect the green to the green, black to black, black w/red strip to black w/ red stripe, etc) and you´ll be good as gold.
The problem is that when the hatch opens and closes, this puts strain on the wires in that boot. Eventually they fray and fail, and sometimes will touch eachother and short out. It would probably be a good idea to check the fuses in teh fuse box (locaed to the left of the clutch pedal in a black box.)
good luck.
