I have a 93 escort wagon with air conditioning. The bearings in the compressor went out. Can I remove the compressor and not replace it and put a serpentine belt from a car that doesn't have air conditioning.
If the AC doesn't have the tensioner device for the belt built into it, then yes, you could do that. Or you could buy a used compressor for probably about the same price as a new belt. Maybe a little more, but still have AC
A used a/c compressor is about 100 dollars and a new belt is 18 dollars I refuse to put cash into this car I only use it for basic transportation. dont get me wrong I will use the car but if it get hot outside I have a Mazda RX 8 to drive and the a/c is fantastic. The Ford is taking up garage space right now.
