So I'm out on a delivery and as I'm turning into this addition my phone starts to vibrate....my buddy that bought my Escort is callin up, he was all pissed and told me that he couldn't turn over the escort.

So having a sh**y night, I get off work and drive out there. I get into the Scort push in the clutch and turn the key.

The door ringer starts goin nuts and you can turn on the lights and whatnot but when you turn the key it doesn't go through the ACC/ON/START clicks....you can push it directly over to the start position but nothing happens.

We both think it's the ignition piece itself in the steering column. But since Napa was closed we couldn't get anything for it...tomorrow hopefully we'll be able to work on it.

What do you all think?

while on topic, my 94 lx the steering weel is not tilt but it moves forward and back, and when i took off the airbag and wheel there was this little blue lockwasher lookin thing that looked mauled.. i duno any opinions might help

Nah it's not the starter, it doesn't even click...let alone crank over. When you turn the key to start from off, you can turn it there without ANY clicking between the ACC/ON/START settings.

i have a feeling also that its the ignition peice, but im defintely not sure.

That sound's just like the ignition lock. Its a common problem with escorts.

If you want to check it it's really easy. Take off the covers of the column. the ignition lock is the metal thing you stick the key into. on the end of it there is a plastic connector. This is the actual ignition switch. There is a phillip's head screw toward the back of the switch. Its a little tricky but not hard really. Then you can pull the switch off of the lock. There is this cheesy 1/4 inch shaft that connects the lock to the switch. It is not uncommon for this to break. if this is not broken check the switch. Stick a flat head screwdriver into the slot and turn like the key. the car should act perfectly as if the screwdrive/switch was the key/lock respectively.

thanks on_dnbe...that'll help when we actually get a chance to go over there and look at it...he's gonna have it towed to his apartment as it's sittin out infront of a friggen pizza place right now.

I'm just tired of the crap thats going wrong with this car...I told him to just sell it elsewhere cause I don't want it back. I'm done with Escorts for a while, maybe might get a ZX2 or something...i dunno but for now I'm moving on to my Civic.
