First let me say this is a wonderful site & I hope I could help other's out there with Escorts problem's..I've worked on mine enough..I'm just no good @ elec problem's...
Now My problem...
I have a 91 escort 1.9 auto A/C...Sometimes the car won't start...I checked the Alt & it's good..Checked that Bat & it's good..Checked the starter & it's good...Now when the car won't start...I can here the relay clicking & the solenoid engaging but no spin...(Yeah I thought starter also but it's not)...I also get the car to start buy jumping it...But the battery & Alt check's out ok like I said...But I've disconnected the bat as the carwas running & she die's...again that tells me it's the Alt but like I said..It checks out ok..I've cleaned all connection of corrision & retightened all connections thinking that might be the problem...But the problem is still there...Right now I'm thinking Neuteral switch or Voltage regulator...
But I'm leaning towards VR right now..
Also can someone tell me where the heck is this neuteral switch???I can't find the darn thing..

Ok, first read the post I made here and try that.

I'm assuming all of those will check out. So basically you're not getting a start signal from the ignition switch to the starter, or your getting one irraticly. This means three things:

1. Bad terminal on starter solenoid, or damaged wiring between ignition switch and starter
2. Bad start circuit realy (relay marked cooling fan in engine bay fuse box, don't ask why but the start ciruit runs through the cooling fan relay)
3. Bad ignition switch

When you try to start the car and it will not do you get a bunch of dash lights coming on with the key. I have a 91 lx and that was hapening to me. It turned out to be just the ground on the starter. I had to clean it up where it bolts on and i also used a few of those star shaped washers that dig in and make a good electrical connection. Also check the ground strap to the motor and transmission.
