looking at new cars and I found a ZX2 pretty cheap from some guy. test drove it and it drives great, has some pretty big scratches so i think thats why it's so cheap, but those are fixed no problem. two questions though, it has a cassette player, who uses those? how much would it cost probably for an oval adapter so i can stick my head unit in? and secondly, i'm not really familiar with the ZX2 engine setup but would my FIPK from my 91 fit? maybe thats a question for K&N huh? thanks for any help peeps

As far as the oval adapter goes I found mine at Best Buy for about $80. Follow the instructions very carefully , your heater controls are on this panel and if you mess up like I did : well.................... be sure to get all the wires tucked out of the way of your head unit , otherwise it won`t snap into place securely . Another place to look is Walmart . They also have the tool to remove that panel , about $2-$3 max . Can`t help much on the rest . Sorry . "H"

Did they make the ZX2 in 98? I didn't think those were made until 2000 when Ford "killed off" the Escort name, and branded it the ZX2 Coupe. :?

I know there is adapters that you can put in even those oval plates...why Ford did that is beyond me.

The oval adapters can be had on ebay. The whole reason why ford did that "ergonomic" oval design is way past me. It's probably the most retarded, unnecessary and flagrant designing I've ever seen in a car. It's unneeded weight, and on top of that, it doesnt even look good at all. I really really hate the syling of the newer fords, especially the contour and the taurus. But that's another topic.

The FIPK kit will fit on. If it doesn't, you can make it fit quite eaisly. Just run to the hardware store and get the parts and you should be running in no time.

good luck.

well yes ford started them in 98.nothign ever really change.
i am porbably getting one. ither a 99 or 01. the 99 has no air, no alloys, no CASSETTE OR CDPLAYER JUST AM/FM!!! its the lightest version of the ZX2 tho. with 40,000 miles they are asking 5000. the other is a 01 with air, cassette, alloys, maybe cruise with 55,000 miles for 5500. hmm gonna trade my motorcycle in probably.
nice cars. i like the,[besides the looks i feel are ugly]

yes they atarted in 98, a year after the 3 gens started. myu brother had one a month after they were released! the reason why ford went with e diffretn desighn was so people wouldnt steel them easil. thats whay the adapter on teh taurs was more, casue the actualk radio was in the trunk, just the face plate was up front! i have seent he zx2 ones as low as 50 bucks sometimes. later zx2 had a few internal changes but minor. the sr i think came out in 99, as few yellows. as for the filter. if the k&n you have is a stock replacement, then no it wont fit, the zx2 has a cone shped filter, as the gt are rectanguar!
