Hey fellas.

The horn on my LX just died (it's located just behind the front bumper beside the passenger side head lamp). The local boneyard only has a GT of the same vintage.

My goal is to get in, steal the horn as quick as possible and get out without the ******* owner even noticing (I have the money, I just think this would be fun). For the sake of doing things quickly, is the horn on the 91-96 GT in the same spot?

Thanks.

I'll let you know if he busts me.

It's under the back seat. Look there. If you don't see it just look harder. Don't leave until you get it.

I believe it is located right next to the knuter valve....which in turn is attached to the muffler bearing...a leastthat is where it is on my GT...but seriously if the guy is charging way too much then tell me what you are willing to pay for one...well for shipping...I think I still have a spare...anything would be better than stealing...

You'll need to crawl under the car. I looks just like an old used oil filter. Very strange, I know, but it's a hydraulic horn. Just reach up in there and start twisting. Don't be discouraged if you happen to spill any of the acoustic fluid. You can re-fill it with ATF later.

Seriously though, if you're going to go replacing your horn.. don't do it with another wimpy scort one. Find something LOUD.

Holy 5HlT I never looked at the OP name! High I never figured you for a teef. :) A little disappointed really. My place would charge me about 5 bux or maybe even nothing. They do that sometimes when you come back with a small handfull of what looks to them like junk. I can get an Escort horn for you and send it to you. I'll try to make it a GT in case that's a different one and sounds better. I'm serious. If the guy charges more than $5 then you're right it's too much and I'd go elsewhere. If he's charging you $5 and you think that's too much, well I don't know what tosay to you. C'mon, stealing, really? I don't care, I'll buy it and mail it all at my expense, it means that much to me. :)
I stole from this very wrecker a few times when I was really young and now I feel like crap about it. :(

It's in the same place as the LX's horn. It's behind the front bumper, on the passenger's side- if I remember correctly. If you really want to know, I can go out an check for ya.

Either way though, you can get horns from all kinds of cars. 90% of them just run on a 12V lead that grounds through the chassis.

Some have the single horn on the passenger side, but I have seen a few that have dual horns, one on each side. I would assume the dual setup would be louder but I have not heard it.

Other than siragan and 91sleeper, I hate you all...you've guilted me into paying the junker dude for it.

Stealing is such a bad sounding word. I look at it as charitable recycling. Think of the awful fate that otherwise awaits this poor horn. It's kind of a game I play with him - I take what I can get away with and he charges me double for everything that he knows I have. It's hard to stuff a set of doors in your pocket after all. It all works out in the wash, I'm sure. I'm there all the time for a bunch of different vehicles - he's doing ok off me.

I'll let you know if I end up getting an "acoustic fluid" bath (phew, thanks for the warning Beav) and how much change I find under the back seat. Does anyone want that muffler bearing while I'm there?

And by the way, if you find your horn missing, it was me. Mine will be the car with five or six.

Lol. Yup.

This guy has a Siberian Husky. It's okay with me, but if I bring my Lab, the thing goes absolutely bonkers. He chains it to a concrete filled tire (total weight of tire and chain is probably 100 pounds). This dog (and it's not very big), when it tries hard enough, can actually drag that thing around a bit.

They're freakin' wolves.

EDIT PS: You guys cost me $5 on pure guilt.
