ok its ben a while since i anounced a new mod so. tired of melting brakes on you 91-95 escort. heres the deal. you kneed a set of rotors from a 96 or newer escort the rotors are 1 inch bigger in diamiter than the stock ones.
but its not that simple you also will kneed the calipers and calipers mounts as well. also your stock rims wont fit you kneed to upgrade to a set that will fit with the new brakes. its a prety basic mod and fairly cheap. just replace all the parts with the newer parts. bleed the brakes aqnd your all set.
sorry i didnt have time to get more into this one.

how is that cheap? unless you get lucky and can get a good set of tires on those rims to make it fit you´re gonna be spending $240 (based on 60 a tire which is a little low) just for new tires. not to mention how much you´re paying the junkyard for the calipers, new pads, new rotors, etc etc. I just think this mod would be based solely on luck, and I for one don´t have good luck. but I also don´t drive an LX. So hope ya get lucky. hehe ;-)

It´s cheap when you compare it to buying a willwood kit and fabbing your own brackets for $2000.

I appreciate the info wolfe. I´m putting some 16s on for my summer tires... but I´m going to be running my 13s w/ snows each winter. I´ll go for some custom brake cooling ducts to compensate a bit.

well the last years of the gt, and the later lx all had the bigger brakes, (well at least 95-96) did, thats why they have 14 inch tires, and the steelies sometimes were bigger. thats what the diffrence is!

and if noted, i can still get brembo cross drilled(and slotted if you want it ) for 100 a pair!

as for 2nd gen LXs, 91 and 92 had 9.25" front rotors, 9" rear drums. 93 and later had 10.25" front rotors, and 7" rear drums. the GTs all had the larger 10.25" rotors and rear disc as well.

i almost certain that all escorts 93+ except for GTs had the same brakes. 91 and 92 also had differnt proportioning vlaves than the later years, GTs included.

the one aftermarket brake upgrade i saw wont even fit an escort due to design changes in the front spindles and the size of the wheels.

James,
The $2000 for the willwood kit wouldn´t include the wheels and tires either.. the way I see it, the OEM parts swap is a much cheaper way to go about upgrading things.

Yeah, it´s not cheap for the wheels and tires.. or the new suspension to make them effective.. or the chassis bracing to make them effective.. or the seats to make the entire package controllable.

But hey, we´re talking in the context of cars here.. nothing is truely cheap.

you bet its cheaper, and as far as the tires go no one said to get chrome 16´s or anything. u could get a set of stock steal 96 scort rims and tires from a junkyard for around $30 each rim with tire. and as a point a set of crossdriled rotors for this mod to improve brakeing even more. and its still cheaper than the kits they sell.

Maybe so but you don´t know how good of condition those tires were in when the car was wrecked or whatnot. plus you don´t know if they´re going to hold out. Thats all I´m saying. Your mod is basically going by how lucky someone gets. Plus I´d rather spend a LOT of money to upgrade to aftermarket parts than to be cheap and use OEM parts to ´upgrade´ your brakes. I´ve already spent quite a bit of cash on my KYB GR2 struts, Susp. Tech springs, Powerslot slotted rotors and EBC Green stuff pads for my car. to me brand new is better than getting ABU (already been used) shit from a junkyard.
Anyway, that´s just my opinion.
