now if the valves are bent is the head damaged? if so can anything be done to fix it? questions from a cousin, who over used a timing belt

It depends on engine and year. Is this an Escort? If it's a 1.6, from '83 onward they were non-interference. All 1.9 engines were non-interference from the start. If you threw a belt, chances are highly unlikely that a valve bent....I snapped on this past summer on a heavily milled head and it was revving around 3k...still no problems. This would be similar to snapping one on the freeway.

alright thanks guys looks like we'll be throwing on a new belt and firing it up again soon. appreciated
