hey all, me again. turns out my issue was a bad ECU all along but I've no idea which one to get. the ECU that came out of my car is an E8EF-12A650-A1C, and that option isn't available on rock auto for my vehicle. Is there another option for the '89 Escort GT, 5spd manual, with A/C and power steering? maybe the ECU that came out of my car was already the "wrong one"? Any help getting the proper one in would be amazing so the shop doesn't charge me $300 for a $100 item (still love those lads tho).

I think I may have a GT ecu, if I do I'll let you know, if shipping is under or close to 10$ and your in the USA its yours. However I have no way of testing it as my car is carb swapped.

matter of fact I looked at a previous post of yours, if you're located in East Central Ohio I'm in Columbus until the 31st, might be able to just grab it in person if you aren't too far outta the way

I just recently came across the information regarding the Calibration Code for our cars, and that it is associated with a list of Calibration Parts that would have been original to the car. One of the parts would have been the ECU model that was original to the car. The electronic parts book that I have says that the Calibration Code sticker location was changed in 1988, and placed on the drivers door or door post. So it is probably there for 1989 as well. I'll copy the Cross Reference Chart for 1989 here. According to that, a 1989 Escort with 1.9L EFI should have one of three Calibration Codes, and therefore one of three Parts List numbers. These parts lists would be 675, 740, or 739. I will post these three Parts lists too. It looks like the parts list 675 shows a "correct" EEC number of E8EF-12A650-AC. The one in your car was a "A1C." I have no idea whether or not that is just a version of the "AC" model or not. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of Ford part numbers can chime in here and let us know it that is the case.
