Hello,
I just purchased a 150k mile Escort GT. It´s mint and is only a 2 owner car, both being older gentlemen who used it as a commuter. It is in absolutely perfect condition and needs nothing.

I need to know what maintenance items I need to address and also, I need to know more about this car. I´m pretty sure it comes with the 1.9 litre H.O engine and has a 5 speed. Beyond that, I´m ignorant. Feed me full of information about my car, I´m hungry.

it´s the exact same car as mine. very reliable, can´t kill it, 150k? just broken in. just make sure the fan doesn´t get jammed, as in keep it clean otherwise you´ll have a fire. you´ll notice really quick that the rear end it VERY light and she can drift quite well. really, from my experiences, stay away from sliding into curbs and watch the exhaust. if it hits just right, pop! major exhaust leak.

well, time for me to go. 6 hours till i ship for the Army.

Which fan? The HVAC fan or the Radiator cooling fan?

radiator fan. if you look in the car showcase and look at crazed_driver, you´ll see what happens when the fan stops turning. 6 hours of rewiring.

I have an 89 Gt also (hence my screen name) I have 120-130 k on mine. She still runs strong. I can´t say I ever had a prob with my fan, but After I had it a few weeks I noticed a smoke smell every now and then and it turned out to be the ignition switch burning itself out. Ford actually did a recall back in the early 90´s to replace them, but i guess mine wasn´t done. It wasn´t too hard to replace though. Also if you are looking into gettting a few more horsepower, check out my post for the Gen I homade cold air intake. And definetly put a new muffler on it. I put a cherry bomb on mine because the old muffler was hanging on by rust. And that thing about drifting is definetly TRUE. Scared the shit outta me the first time i did it. Damn near plowed into the back of a parked semi trailer. But after the front tires grabbed again and yanked me to safety It was one hell of a ride. Another side note, e-brake slides are really fun in this car. I can do a 180 on a two lane dirt road without going to the shoulder. If the Dukes of Hazard drove a compact car it would be an 89 Escort GT.

Other than that I love it which really surprized me because the only reason I bought it was because I blew the engine in my mustang and I needed something to get to school in. But I wouldn´t trade it for anything now.
