Hello All,, well ,,things happen and it happen today ,, let me change that ,its been going bad for sometime now over the last few months ,at times , it would stick when it came back to you as the door was shut , moved and worked great when you open the driver side door , but now its not working at all the motor is even dead ,no sound at all . The good news about this ,is that I have another set ( used ) out of my parts car I got a few years back ,so I am hopping all is good with those parts ( seat belt track and motor ) ,, I'll try and post a few pictures tomorrow .,,,electric seat belt track ,,pain in the butt . But I am surprised it lasted this long ( over 30 years now ) . car has over 200k miles on it .

Good Luck with the other car's "auto" shoulder belt. When the belt began sticking in my 91, it was warm weather. On cooler days it would not complete its trip. I got the inner panel off without breaking too many of its plastic clips, got the belt track and the motor unbolted from the door opening, and took it apart. The plastic cover on the cable that moves the 'slider' forward and back was cracked - right where the sharpest radius to the aluminum extrusion was. Also the groove in the extrusion was warn noticeably at that point (right by my left temple). While I could clean out all the much, and put new grease in it, there was nothing I could do about repaorong the cracked nylon coating over the cable. And of course the Ford dealer didnt have any inventory; just said the parts were "obsolete".
So I worked the sliding clip to its rearmost position, and disconnected the motor (as it would still hum for a while, since the slider could not reach the limit switches at the end of the aluminum extrusion. And there was no way to use a passenger side belt on the driver's side door frame.
Since then, for the last ten or so years, we just hook the shoulder belt to the retaining clip as we get into the car, or unhook it as we get out. Now my 94LX wagon is doing the same thing, as does my 93LX hatch.

In the junkyards I only found belts that were already stuck halfway, or that had been harvested and were missing.

I swapped in manual seat belts to my car; all I had was a 2 door Tempo as a donor, so I modified the plastic bits to fit the belt itself, bent the locating ear on them, and put a small slot to locate said ear, then bolted in using the same bolts as the tracks did. Mine was a 4 door, so I didn't need the belts to be as long. I wound up removing the tracks, and the center piece, which saved some weight in the car.

Pretty much any 2 door Ford would fit your application, and will bolt in with minimal issues. Once there are electrical or mechanical issues, those auto seatbelts are a problem. They also catch people's hair/heads, and don't really do much for safety (that lap belt sure does).

Really do not need to swap the entire track just to replace the motor. The motor will unbolt from the track.

Well ,, I got into it today ,,wow what a job ,,still not done , but got it all apart and out the car ,, the old seat belt track and motor ,, the old track went bad , see pictures , the motor is shot / bad too , I got to get things cleaned up and sanded and paint some brackets before putting this all back together , re-install I mean ,, behind the inside panels very dusty and dirty , its been a few years , do it while its apart ,I say ,, no hurry on this project ,I still got a back up car if I need to go somewhere ,,lol :D,,just saying . ;)

Here are a few pictures ,,yes the back seat has to come out to get that big inside panel out of the car . Good thing these cars are " Hatch Backs ",,lol .

Old plastic track belt striped out ,so the plastic teeth on the motor drive could not grab it and pull it back all the way back . see pictures

Ok,, I'm all done with this project ,,its fixed now :D,,works great ,greased the track real good before putting it all back together ,, yes I had to take the extra track apart and use a bracket off the old track set up ,, the 1988 model is not just like the 1989 model ,, but if it had been a 1988 and half car ( mid year ) 1988 .5 ,,lol,, it would have worked without taking it apart , but taking it apart was good ,I got to learn how it all go's together , so if I have to do the other side one day , " I got this ",,lol,,,, again I greased the inside of the track really good ,, you would not believe how quite it is now ,and moves really easy .

Here are a few pictures taken today ,,before re-installing the inside trim panels .

Take care All and stay safe . ,,,,Thanks for looking in .

The black plastic ties on the other motor in the picture below - is just for extra protection , on stress area ,when the motor is on , by doing this ,this will help keep good contact with the belt track when moving on the plastic teeth on the motor drive ,that move the belt track back and forth .
