6x9's....just wondering if they'll fit in my 2nd gen LX without much hassle. I don't really wanna poke holes or tear up half of my trunk to do so......anybody know if it's possible? AND, do you think getting 6x9's will get me the *biggest* sound i can get without getting subs? PEACE Y'ALL!

no, 6x9's wont fit, and have fun finding 5x7's that will fit. i tried about 4 different 5x7's last week and NONE of them fit because of the stupid seatbelt. So i just re-drilled wholes and put some 6x9's in. Infinity's.... they sound great. and about the sound... do you have a stock radio or after market? later.

6x8s and 5x7s will fit without drilling or any major modification to the mounting point.
really? 6x8's? Weird :? cause i mean it's just one inch away from 6x9. Are they rare? I've seen 5x7's kickin around...but still, not very often...and what exactly do you mean major modification? IS there any minor? how minor? geeze...so many questions  thanks guys! especially you James, you seem to answer all my questions!

hah.. I put 5 1/4" rounds in the rear to replace the blown stock 5x7's... less distortion with rounds. It all depends if you think "better sound" means louder or clearer... I vote clearer. Oh, but I'm cheating (by the stipulations put in place by Weak_Scort), got an Infinity Basslink, in the box, waiting to be installed.

What we used to do for Escorts (and Shadow/Sundance's as well) was to cut 6x9 holes in the rear hatch cover (the "rear deck" of a hatchback) and install the 6x9's there. You'll get good bass in that location, provided the speakers have a good frequency response.

The downside, obviously, is that everyone can see your speakers, and eventually you may need to replace the hatch cover all together as heavy speakers can cause it to bow and may break over time unless reinforced in some way.

I had 6x9s in my hatch for a while. I built 5-sidedboxes for them to sit in that curved down with the hatch. They sat on the trunk cover. I eventually took them out because i hated the sounds aiming directly at me. Currently I just use door speakers.
Do you think that there is room under the armrests in the back seat of the LX hatch to put speakers, or will there be metal behind the plastic there?

ok..... TAKE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES
i have 6x9s in the back, but i cut 2 holes in my rear shelf and mounted them back there
they are pioneer 6x9s, 3-way speakers (have a woofer, midrange, and a tweeter)
they have SWEET bass, and sound REALLY SWEET
but anyways, the thing between 6x8s and 5x7s and 6x9s, is that 5x7s are harder to find, and so are 6x8s
6x9s are a REALLY common size, so they are usually cheaper. my speakers were $10 cheaper than 5x7s that weren't NEARLY as good..... just because you don't find alot of 5x7s everywhere (just check out my pics and see how i mounted them)
