When it snowed here, I was leaving work at 3pm, It was really deep in the lot where i work, they didnt get it plowed GRR (Uhaul). I was leaving work, And i was stuck pretty bad in the parking lot it was really deep, The bottom of my front bumper was acting as a snow plow LOL, Any way after getting un-stuck, I noticed this weird clicking noise/motion, from the transmission, and I could see the gear shifter kinda pulseating. It would do that while i was driving even if the clutch was disengaged, It would only stop when i was at a complete stop, So I was still in the parking lot and all of a sudden the front end just LOCKS up! I was like WTF? i have the clutch pushed in (disengaged) and the front wheels are locked up, So I leave the clutch out to move alittle, and the car wont go, its as if the Ebrake was on, So i give it alittle gas and let the clutch out, i heard this LOUD metal cracking sound, and then it moves like 1 ft, and did the same thing again, then the 2nd time, I let the clutch out and nothing!!! I notice the speedometer moving, but not the car, I put it in 2nd gear, 3rd gear, I see it go up to 100mph but the wheels are not spinning Hrmm, and i also notice, after i got out of my egt, a nice line of tranny fluid leading to where it locked up, and the a HUGE puddle of fluid from where the car cracked real loud. So i have it towed, and the people at the trans place tell me the tranny is gone!, Its 550 for a used one from a junk yard in York,PA, 380 for labor and well might as well stick a new clutch in it awhile it would be dumb not to. so were looking at like 1200$ to fix my egt 1994 5spd with 84K on it. I think its all cuz of the snow really. well my X-mas is gonna suck!

Trust me! you can get a tranny cheaper than that. Look for a pick a part type of junk yard where you pull the tranny yourself. I just found one and put it into my car for 135. It works perfect. Get a chilton and if you have strength and are capable of changing oil in your car you´re capable of replacing your tranny. Post if you need help if you decide to do it. I´ve done it to my EGT a couple times.

Scortgt, Where are you from? Im not to sure I check around a few places around here that you can pull your own parts like (a-z you pull it) and two other places, neither have any 2nd gen EGTs there was one 91 LX and it was like already gutted, I wouldnt mind doing the job myself, But i dont have a garage jack or even tools really. Scortgtboy, Its all getting done at Gabe´s Lee-Myles on 5th st, They are doing the swap and clutch there.

thats good to hear your going to gabes, they did my explorer for me. I have had no problems with it at all and they were pretty fast with it. I was hoping you wern´t gonna say egans. I had to take it back 3 times before they got it right. Oh yeah and you know atoz don´t warrent their parts. I would say go to chucks or arts. They carry alot like that and I am pretty sure they warrenty them to work.

Hey man, sorry to hear that snow got your scort down!
Don´t think the snow actually did in your trans tho. More likely the added strain of trying to get unstuck and out of your lot exposed its weakness. It probably would have failed on you anyway, and at least you didn´t break down in the middle of the night or something.
I can identify cause the auto trans in my 94 LX went last month. At least, it was slipping and not upshifting whenever the car was cold. I was tempted to ignore it and just warm the car before driving, but I had it checked out, and was told it needed a rebuild. LOL, only has 32k miles on it! Anyway $1600 later it´s shifting perfectly again.
Me, I wish I had the tools and know-how to handle all repairs and mods myself too! Bound to be a lot cheaper, and fun too! It´s kinda scary to place your trust in some shop.
Good luck with it and all!

Yeah your right, I doubt it was the snow directly, but however it just contributed to the failure of the trans.
Pretty odd though, only 84K on the car but i did/do drive in such a fashion that it isnt very good for the trans
Always banging 2nd gear and spinning them to show the rice boys whats up LOL, But well now its in the shop, Getting a used trans installed for another GT which was alot cheaper then rebuilding the trans, I only hope this new (used) tranny holds up. While the cars in the tranny shop, Ive decided to replace the clutch right away, with the Centerforce Dual friction kit, I got an awsome deal on it, 300$ total for the dual friction kit (which is the pressure plate and disc only!) which is like over 300 on the net centerforce.com, and the T.O. bearing for 30$ which is 40 on the net, So i got everything for 300$ and it will be here next day
(I used to work at an auto parts store lol) I love jobber prices. But i´ll keep everyone posted on how it goes. -Donny
