Used to be a welder and I always used a rounded (blunted) chisel. Tape or a sleeve is nice for a car. We never bothered with it in a weld shop.

Awh I was hoping this would be a thread on where to find a deal on real copper, real 4 gauge wire.

Can $1 a foot for Cadence brand be beaten (I know it's not pure copper but the gauge at least looks honest).

look into knukonceptz. they have good true gauged wire. the kolossus fleks kable is true ofc. its the same thing (from what i can tell) as stinger. but cheaper. steer clear of the klmx and kca. those are both copper clad aluminum. granted they will do a good job but you have to pay attention to the amperage they car carry. i have used it in a few cars with no issue but i also do a lot of research as to what wire will carry with out over heating.
