Hey guys,

Had a quick question- I am going to be combining 2 broken escorts to make one working one and was wondering if I could put the tranny from my 97 (2.0) escort into my 94 (1.9) escort. Both are automatic transmissions with overdrive.

I seen that episode before. That Escort was horrible and dude was seriously smoking something harsh cause that thing was barely holding together.

From my understanding and what I have read here, there are some differences between the two transmissions that would not make it a smooth swap, but i think if you have the donor car available, it would make it easy to do it. Now, as far as the differences, this is all new to me, and personally I own a 2nd Gen Escort, first one, so I wouldnt be the person to tell you. I think a quick search on here would show you some of the information you need. I think there is a post under the Drivetrains forum that explains some of the differences, but it is a MTX transmission, but the overall similarities with CV Axels and Bolt-up/Mounting, it the same.

Also, best advice I can give you. If both cars are not running right now, you have nothing to lose by attempting or even removing both trannys to see the similarities/differences between the two. Then just go for it. Put the 2.0 trans into the Gen2 Escort and then share your experiences and then if there is a clarification question, ask that, instead of asking a generic question like "Will it work?" Anything will work with time and money.
