It's doable.. but a real pain. The mazda engine mounts are different from those in the CVH/SPI/Zetec cars. A DOHC Zetec would be your best bet for a direct swap... although I'm not sure how much of an improvement it would be.

Yeah, sounds like a pain then. I think a HODC zetec would be better because its more tunable. I could conveivably get like 160hp out of it without using forced induction and still retain reliability. In my mind, at least. Any way, i'm autocrossing so huge hp isn't really a needed thing, more like a thought i'm entertaining.

over on focal jet, there is a guy running a 5-speed SPI focus for Auto cross. He consistantly spanks the hell out of the focus zetecs. the SPI's low-end torque is a real help for him in Stock class. (when you read anything I post remember that I am an SPI-man all the way.) But my story is true.
