Is there any way we can get new pictures of what to look for? The links appear to be broken. I am looking into installing a cruise control in my 2001 Escort. It has aluminum rims, exhaust tip, sun roof, tac, and leather seats. Thanks Josh
if you take a picture of your engine bay on the passenger side behind the headlight I can tell you if you have the harness you need. Based on your other equipment (sunroof and whatnot) you most likely DO have the harness.

Yep, its there. The big black plug in the middle of the picture.

yes, you have the wiring for cruise control.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but hopefully I'm asking as pertinent a question as I think I am...

I have a 97 manual and I do have the plug pictured above. So I'm looking at ebay parts. Does the presence of the harness mean I have the clutch switch already? I've been reading through these cruise tutorials and I'm still not certain what all parts I will need to get.

Also, I see an unoccupied plug under my dash... is this the cruise plug?

I appreciate your patience and assistance!

Or perhaps another way to ask; would I need anything besides the following ebay purchases?

Steering wheel:

Replacement buttons for above wheel:

Cruise control module:
https://m.ebay.com/itm/02-FORD-ESCORT-Cruise-Control-MODULE-XS4F-9C735-BA-/173076335526?nav=SEARCH

I would appreciate any help, as I intend to order these parts today, along with whatever else I might need!

Crazy rays actually had an escort with cruise! I pulled the servo and switches, among other things, but I couldn't find a "control module" behind any of the drivers side trim. So I installed the servo and switches, but no joy. My 97 has the harness, and even had the brake pedal switch. So what am I missing?

Just wanted to update...

My cruise install was a success! I was a tad confused, as what I thought was the right switch in a different color was on the wrong pedal, lol... So all I needed for the cruise install was:

#1 - The servo/cable under the hood

#2 - The steering wheel buttons

#3 - The blue brake pedal switch

No other module or anything was needed. So for those of you with a 3rd gen that has the harness, that's all you need! It was really easy to install the buttons on a non-cruise wheel with a box cutter and some super glue, and the buttons feel just as solid as when they were "bolted" in to the donor wheel.

Most of the steering wheel is foam, and the buttons were originally just screwed to a bracket that was molded into said foam. I literally ripped the buttons from the donor wheel, removed the unnecessary brackets, cut a spot for them in my wheel, and super glued them at the top and bottom.

Total cost was less than 10% of the aftermarket Rostra kit I was looking at and a LOT less work to install! Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread for motivating me to go out and give it a shot!

hey I just got a 97 tracer and I'm interested in doing this!
Do you have a link to the blue brake pedal switch you mentioned?
looks like we may have similar options though I have an auto so I'm hoping I have the plug under the hood!

Curious... ebay wouldn't update the URL for a specific listing, just frustratingly left it at "m.ebay.com"

Anyway, this is the blue brake switch I mentioned. They are still pretty easy to find on ebay.

If you're not certain if you have the harness, take a pic of your engine bay just behind the passenger side headlight, post it here and we can help you!

Oh, I forgot to mention - also look for a blue bumper that goes in front of that switch if you pull one from a junkyard. I forgot to grab that. It's easy to make one as I and others have, but I'd have preferred a proper piece.

You don't have the wiring for factory cruise control. You can still wire it in yourself but it's much trickier now.

Just finished up the cruise install on my sedan. Went together a whole lot easier than I thought it would. I simplified the installation so that way when others go to do the no-factory-harness swap, it's easy.
I can't seem to open any pictures showing the no-factory-harness swap. I have the components (wheel, servo, switches) but had to cut the wiring from the salvage car. Am looking for the wiring diagram for a 97 Escort (no CC).

You can find the CCS-100 for under $200 using Google.

I think getting the factory parts from the junkyard is far cheaper than the kit and easier to install when you consider the specific instructions provided for these cars. All you need in addition to the parts is some wire and crimps. I did this on my car a few years back and use it almost daily.

If you don't have the factory harness you can still install the factory cruse. Use either the link pextor posted on the first page or this how-to from Teamzx2.
