Just wanted to thank dave94lx and for the link to the pictures of install of scort with out factory harness. I have 98 scort with aftermarket cruise installed that did'nt work. With the pictures of install I was able to get cruise working. So thank you very much will make driving to work so much more relaxing.
So are there still CCS-100 kits available that aren't $200+ (vacuum tank is not included in price)? Is there another kit that will work without too much headache? My wifes car needs cruise as we're taking it up to Michigan in two months.

I think getting the factory parts from the junkyard is far cheaper than the kit and easier to install when you consider the specific instructions provided for these cars. All you need in addition to the parts is some wire and crimps. I did this on my car a few years back and use it almost daily.
I installed a Rostra cruise with electric servo instead of vacuum, on my '97 Tracer wagon, and used their wireless radio control setup so I did'nt have to mess with the steering column at all.
Expensive, but relatively hasslefree install and works well.
I would have used the factory stuff, but my '97 car was not plug and play.
Few questions. Can u install the factory cruse control system on a manual? Also, any tips on taking the airbag cover off of the steering wheel to get to the bolts? I don't really want the thing exploding on me, or should I not worry about that. Haha
Disconnect the car battery. Wait 1 minute. Then the airbag has no electricity to open. It is generally important to wait the minute as some vehicles have a backup battery that keep power for an air bag working in a serious crash....
You should be able to install factory cruise on a manual, if the car has the wiring prewired. (my year did not, the year before it did.) More experience users can let you know for sure.

That box in the middle and wires were missing on my 98. So I could not do it.
Hey guys, my first post, unfortunately not a happy one. I just spent all night trying to wire up cruise on my 98, went out for a test drive and it doesn't work. I've got a decent amount of experience with wiring and followed the diagram below nearly exactly. If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. This car is my daily driver since I somehow get over 40 MPG on the highway, but drives longer than about 45 minutes start to kill my knee from the position its in holding the gas, so I'd really like to get this thing working soon. It'd probably be easiest if a knowledgeable person sent me a message with their number so I can actually talk instead of typing it all out and trying to describe things.
A little info for whoever can help, my car is a 98 SE, manual trans, and did not have the factory harness, so I made my own following the diagram.
I'd like to add also that with a test light I have confirmed ignition switched power to the green/yellow wire on pin 9, and power to the green wire on pin 4 when the brakes are pressed. I've also confirmed a solid ground on the blue wire on pin 10. I tapped the white/black wire under the center of the dash for the VSS, however in another hand drawn diagram on a different forum he said to hook to the black/white wire, could this be my problem?
With more searching I've found that pin 58 on the PCM is the VSS wire, and it's white/black on my car, so that guy on the other forum was either confused and spreading wrong information, or his car is different, but I think it's the former considering the black/white wire is for the fuel pump and is on pin 62 I think it was. So back to square 1...
Granted its extremely late so I may not be thinking right, but it seems the only place left that something could be wrong is the wires hooked to that plug under the steering column that has the horn wire on it. That or a defective servo, which how could I test that?
Red/yellow has confirmed power when the steering wheel "ON" button is pressed, the test light lights up weak as I expected since it sends variable voltage depending which button is pressed, but that is the only time I can get it to light up with the 2 red/x wires, which from my understanding of the diagram are the signal wires to tell the servo what to do.
This is the other hand drawn diagram on the link above. I hooked all the wires on that plug under the column exactly how he said in his description, which follows the diagram. The only thing I changed from the fancy diagram is the brake/clutch wire routing. I skipped the clutch pedal part (because lets be honest, who kicks the cruise off with the clutch? No one, that's who.) and just re-engineered it send power to the servo when the brakes are pressed since that is a normally open circuit anyway.
I'd like to add also that I tested the wires not only at the servo plug, but also at the plug under the column, which yielded the same results, so that rules out a faulty connection. I'm starting to lean either towards faulty buttons or a bad clock spring.
Well I have an update if anyone has been reading. As it turns out the ignition hot I tapped into wasn't a good one. When I hit the on button it was turning the rear defrost on for as long as the button was touched... (facepalm). Gonna try a different one here in a bit and see if that fixes my problem.
Is there any way we can get new pictures of what to look for? The links appear to be broken. I am looking into installing a cruise control in my 2001 Escort. It has aluminum rims, exhaust tip, sun roof, tac, and leather seats. Thanks Josh
