really? well that sucks. I could probably mod it to fit the escort heater controls, but then it probably wont look right. i already put in the carpet and front recaro style seats. rear seats are waiting to go in but theres tears at the seams.

I noticed yesterday at the jy that a 1st gen mx6 heater control is approx the same size as the protege/mx3 and it has the ac button on the panel. I actually measured it with an mx3 panel: the mx6 is approx 1/8" wider n 1/8" taller. With minor trimming i think it could work.

I'm working on the MX3 lower dash swap. reason being is that i need a double DIN opening and I need the square port for the power mirror switch. And the MX3 is the only one that has both of those features on it.

I am working on doing the lower dash as well. the only thing holding me up is the ac/heater panel, but I really think the mx6 panel will be the solution if the cables can be made to work. I didn't check that the other day because i couldn't get it out due to a stripped screw. I need to also find where they connect so that i can remove it when i find out. they seem to be hidden in that car compared to the escort or mx3.

When it comes to removing the HVAC panel, it's always easiest to remove the cables at the ends rather than at the panel. I've pulled many many of these and I think I've mastered it now.
As for dealing with the A/C, I don't see what the big fuss is, splicing in an A/C switch it really the difficult part of this swap. Just about any switch will work. When I finally get around to doing this swap in my cars I have a few other/different options I'm going with for the P. mirror, A/C, defog swithces, and maybe more.

Drew, let me know if still interested, I have taken my inventory.

    I sent you a PM.

    300ZX:

As for the cables. I haven't pulled my Escort stuff out yet. i just have the MX3 HVAC controls in the basement. But the Escort cable ends do or do not work on the MX3 controls?

Replied to the PM, round and round she goes...

Cables, iirc they are the same as far as length and the ends in general, there are minute differences, but they should not affect operation.

for the protege console where the heater is located, you got to make yourself a good solid mounting plate that you fix to the console itself, take the mesurement for the hole where the escort heater control and cut the plate

I have a 95 and i'm currently doing it, it's really nothing hard, many of us has seen worse problems than fitting a scort heating control onto a protege console

i'll give you pics by wednesday or so

the protege controls work with cables, it should work for 91-93 scorts with a little electrical rewiring, in 1994, ford installed the heating control with the vaccum, for 94-96 scort's, you can't use the protege console unless swap the 91-93 regular mecanism in your scort

i've made an adapter plate that can be easely installed on the protege console than can let us use the heating control from the scort without too much hassle

the adapter has been painted and is drying as we speak, i'm gonna try to get pics of the plate before install and after install in the car, i'm gonna post the pictures as soon as I can

if anybody want the mesurements for making himself a plate or buying me one, do it on pm please

Never heard of the Miata connection, although I should have figured it out, is that a bolt in?

    Anyways:
    -Protege trunk release cable
-Protege caps that cover rear bolts on the front seats. Don't see them much while installed but look a lot better than metal and bolts.

billzie, i looked in 7 different proteges at the jy today and the pieces are not black, they are dark grey. I went and got some pieces from an mx3 for comparison side by side and the protege pieces are clearly dark grey. The trim piece from a protege that is under the glovebox will work in an escort if you take the bar it attaches to and replace the escort one with it. The mx3 door rubber is black and it will work. I pulled out the mx6 heater controls today and test fit them in an escort and protege. The console will have to have some new holes drilled to mount the controls. 2 of the cables will work by swapping between cables for the pro/escort and mx6. The temp control cable however is facing the wrong direction, but i think a longer cable may be the answer to making it work. I could hook it up and make it work but it would go about 1/2 way and bind up because the bend was to sharp. So i think a longer rod so the bend would not be so sharp or an actual cable like the recirc control would work.

They do look alot better. If you use the MX3 seats and rails in your car get the ones from the mx3 as well.

My MX3 center stack and other black pieces. I have the carpet but am waiting till I get the floormats before I install it. I still have to take care of the heat/AC controls as you can see. :D

As soon as i figure out which 1 i am going to use. As for the vacuum switch, i am just going to mount it so the recirc lever control activates it and eliminate the cable on whatever contral panel i use.
