Sounds like it's time to learn all about rebuilding trannies and brakes.

A rebuild kit and all the neccessary brake hardware would probably come in at less than $800 (that's a wild guess, since I don't know exactly what you need).. the knowledge gained in doing it yourself would be an investment.

You may also want to consider finding a junked LX w/ a 5 speed and doing a conversion. (manual trannies usually last longer than autos).

This all depends, of course, on how mechanically inclined you are. Some people get off on fixing stuff.. some don't.

uh, not to sound like a jerk, but a 95 lx wagon can be bought for 2500 bucks. Why in the name of all that holy would you sink 2500 bucks into a 95 wagon for repairs? By another and part out the one with problems. heck, I would sell you my 94 gt for half that if you wanted it.

D'OHH can't read!! still, a 95 lx sedan isn't worth putting 2500 bucks into. There isn't a 2nd gen scort that I would do 2500 in repairs to - I would just by another.

Hrm.. should I take it personally that he's taking it personally that you called his personal mode of transportation a mere wagon? Nahhhh.

Agrees w/ Birddog... maybe you should buy his GT.

a persons ride isa persons ride....i would rather sink 5000 into my car for repairs then buy another gt. I know my specific car very well, iknow its problems, i know its noises, i know where its been, i know what has been done to it and what hasnt beendone. Most importantly, its my own personal car that i've have for over a year, i've had some fun and some bad. Now i know everyone else thinks the same way about their car.

So please tell me, why the hell would UUU buy another car thats a complete mystery when u could just get the stuff repaired and avoid possible probs from buyin another?

I agree with 92gt5spd. I would put money into my car before buying someone else's. It's a personal choice. 95EsortSittinLo, don't let people's opinion bother you. It's all computer talk.

Great I'm a moron too then. I sunk 2k into new oil rings and a reground head, a new battery and timing belt. plus the 1k i put into flushing all the fluids and a tire rotation. plus the 350 for new tires. don't forget the coolant and hose that blew, oh and now my cat has a hole in it. (crap) Plus...I can go on and on. Our car's may be pieces of shit on wheels but who are you to basically tell us we're idiots for liking what we already have bought?

Okay perhaps you missed the point here. Why pay 2500 for for a couple parts, when you can buy a running parts car for less. You take the parts you need, strip some extras that you will need, then sell/part out what is left. No, the gt isnt in horrible shape, a 94 gt with over 200,000 miles just isn't worth that much. These are 9 and 10 year old cars. They just don't have that much value to the average consumer. And no James I am not calling your cars a piece of shit. I am just saying that we need to realize that we can by a whole running car for less than the parts cost now. And I hope no one thought I was bashing wagons, I wasn't. They like the rest of the 10 year old escorts out there don't fetch much on the used car market. Plain and simple. Wagons are actually pretty cool. More room for parts.

I put $4000 into my 95LX for a Japser rebuilt engine. 8O

My reasoning at the time (last year) is that I want to keep this car for as long as I can. As long as automakers are refusing to make a decent 2Dr Hatchback (a regular car, not a sports car with no room in the back) I'm going to keep this one. Besides that if you have to have an automatic a certain color that's otherwise in mint condition that's not real easy to find on the open market. And the Jasper engine has been really great so far and I expect it to last as long as a new Escort engine is supposed to last. Mine threw a rod and there were two big holes in the engine casing.
