I'm not surprised that it's rumored to sell only in China and maybe some Asian/SE Asian markets -- that's where all the new growth is.

The truth that this car is based on a Focus generation that hasn't been sold here since 2009, will only matter to those who consider it obsolete -- in the Chinese and other emerging markets, this will be the new hotness -- esp if outwardly it looks comparable... though I highly doubt it'll look like that when it actually debuts. Give it an inch in wheel gap and ride height, -1 the tire profile, swap plain plastic lenses and current bulbs, and swap out all the showcar detailing... even then the car will be premium to that market.

Is it really that bad over there? I know the chinese took a long time to start driving (as did the koreans) but man...that's kind of scary XD

Yep -- all the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) emerging world economies are easily 10 - 15 yrs behind the game in producing automobiles that rival First World versions. Obviously Korea no longer need refer to itself as an emerging mobile consumer society -- they're where Japan was in the '80s and early '90s before their own zeal for affluence resulted in a 10-yr-long 'lost decade' economic slump after their bubble burst. China is already just over the top of this peak, and heading down fast... but Russia has so many millionaires now it can afford to import its affluence symbols, and Brazil is not far behind.

Just Google 'Volkswagen Gol' and other Brazil, India, and SE Asian-market cars from familiar factories to us, to see just what sort of car those citizens can afford. A properly-sorted 4gen Escort would be their Honda Accord, or even their Audi A3, with only cursory detail work. ;)
