how hard would it be to drop in a 2.3 out of a 80s model cougar into a 89 scort,or would it take alot of money and alot of work, and if it will work what tranny would i need?
I had an 89 tempo with the 2.3 in it and i went through 3 of thm before i got rid of it. I want to warn you that it is a terriblew engine. I used to drive to school with it and that killed it. The first engine i broke the crank and bent some rods. it only had about 105 thousand on it. the second had 80 thousand on it and i cracked the head broke the crank sent a piston thourgh the head also and it created so much back pressure it blew the pcv valve out and sent oil up ob the window and on the roof and down the side of the car. all i did was drive across the state with it on the turnpike. the third had about the same milage and the rings went and it smoked like a bitch. I also had a problem with it overheating alot and having to replace valve cover gaskets often. I will never buy a car with that engine in it again. Thats just a warning to you. I would get a 1.8 from a gt. I am impressed with that engine.
I had a 93 mustang with the 2.3 liter in it and i had no problems with it. there were 175000 miles on it and it never leaked, knocked, or pinged or nothing. Ran like a tank.
