Its out of a 91 MX-6 I believe. It only has 145 hp but 190 ft-lb seems pretty good. Is this the same motor that comes in turbocharged ford probes? If it is this engine should fit an Escort GT right?

yeah it's that same one that was in the 1st gen Probe GT.
They say the HP was underrated too.

Yeah it no worky worky. The 2G Probe/MX6 motors will work but none of the 1G motors. Sides, the BPT is much better then the F2T.

yup. the F2T is a very under-rated engine stock, but it has almost no potential. and isnt very strong for turning up the boost real high

Has anyone ever put a 2.0L FE3 or FE3T into an escort? I've seen it as an "upgrade" motor swap in the 1st gen. Probes, but the power stock n/a is low.
From wikipedia:
FET

The 2.0 L (1998 cm3) Fuel Injected, turbocharged FET version of the FE produced 135 hp (101 kW) at 5250 rpm and 175 ft·lbf (237 N·m) at 2800 rpm. It was a variant of the 8-valve SOHC FE Featuring a small turbocharger and no intercooler producing 7 psi of boost. As such it features the same 86 mm bore and stroke of the FE. The Japanese variant of this engine was dubbed the Magnum Turbo. Given that the peak power for the naturally aspirated, fuel injected FE is 118 hp (88 kW), the rated power for the FET is said to be conservative.

Applications:

* 1986-1987 Mazda Capella/626
* 1986-1987 Ford Telstar Turbo
* 1986-1987 Mazda 929 coupe

[edit] FE-DOHC
Main article: Mazda FE-DOHC engine

The FE-DOHC is the 16 valve DOHC variant of the FE. Commonly called the FE3 because of its head castings, it was used in some 626s from Europe, New Zealand and Japan; but not the U.S. or Australia. After the GD platform stopped production in 1992, FE-DOHCs continued production until the end of the GV wagon in 1997. The FE-DOHC was also produced under license by Kia for the 1995+ Kia Sportage.

The FE-DOHC shares the same dimensions as the original FE-SOHC, including the square 86mm bore x stroke and it has an ideal 1.74 rod/stroke ratio. The FE-DOHC is usually identified by a gold coloured cam cover, however not always. There were at least five different FE-DOHC engines available with various compression ratio, camshaft and ECU tuning combinations however none were fitted with a turbocharger from the factory.

Applications:

* 1988-1997 Mazda Capella/626
* 1992-1993 Ford Laser 2.0iRS (South Africa)
* 1995-2003 Kia Sportage

To my knowledge, no one has tried to swap a FE3. Not sure it would really be worth the extra work over a BP but it would be different.

I was about to call you all high, but then i realized that this thread is 5 years old.

The F2T doesn't have potential? Please. Anyone who believes that is welcome to come and take a ride in my stock, OEM motor'd 172k mile MX6.

An FE3 has been done. It quite literally bolts in. There's a lot of info on ClubProtege about the swap.

As for the F2T? Anywhere you can put an FE3, you can put an F2T.

f2t is an awsome motor. with full bolts on and a EMS they pull like crazy. doesnt have the potential of an fe3 of course but a externally modded f2t in an esocrt would still pull like a beast. is the trouble worth it when you have so many easier / better options though (gtx, gtr, turbo n/a bp, turbo cvh, cvh hybrid, klze etc) ...probably not

It's got about the same potential as an FE3 stock, it just depends where you want your power. Nobody REALLY knows what the stock power limits on these things are, if they blow up, it's typically because of stupid tuning. If you want a buttload of torque and low end power, you want an F2T. If you want crazy top end, you want an FE3.

The swap, at least from what i've seen over on clubprotege doesn't seem that hard, and it's more robust than any of the options you laid out there. The only one that might give it a run for it's money would be a turbo KLZE.

The main downside of the F2T is that the exhaust note sounds like utter GARBAGE. Worst. Sounding. Motor. Ever.

Of course, that may just be a function of my two and a half foot long 3" exhaust with no bends. (Don't even really have a downpipe)

Pull like crazy is a bit of an understatement. Pick a gear and hold the eff on. My girlfriend freaks out at half throttle in this thing.

All that said... if you're going to go beyond basic bolt ons with one, i probably wouldn't suggest one in an Escort unless you liked death.

i'd like to see dyno numbers on your MX6, its almost certainly heavier than my EGT and we have the same trap speed...
That'll be done when it warms up again... i've got some other goodies for it that need to be done as well.

The cars weighs about 2600lbs right now. Maybe a touch less.

If i had to guesstimate, going off of other cars i've seen, it's probably making about 300whp, and 350+wtq.

If you youtube "mx6 gt turbo burnout" there's a video of one of these doing a 2-3 pull, and just roasting tires. That car was running a 57trim on a stock ecu stock fuel, at like 12psi, made 250whp and just under 300wtq. I'm running more like 18-20psi, with free-er exhaust, better intercooler setup etc etc etc.

But yes... dyno will be coming. :) I'm going to try to get a before, and an after megasquirt, T70, and 800cc injectors dyno. :twisted:
