Maybe you good people can assist my query..was a 2.4l made for 1999 escortzx2 s/r or were they 2.0l
I bought a cat converter for what i believed was my car..the seller sent a 4 bolt ahead unit after i asked for clarity on the fit of the 4 bolt pattern..they said my vin matched a 2.4l and that i misordered .ive done some searching and all seem to say 2.0l..can anyone help shed light on this?

Im a 80s escort guy so I could be wrong, but I never recall there being a 2.4l motor in a escort of any year

2.0/1.9/1.8 from beginning to end. No 2.4's unless it was some special factory option that I'm not aware of but I would think that if it was true there would be some very lively discussions on this forum in regards to motor swaps and performance since there are some very knowledgable members, me not being one of them! LOL!

Tell your vendor the information he based his decision on in regards to your part is in error and he needs to correct it and send you the correct part.

Thank you John. I Appreciate your feedback.
I did puruse feoa for possible *lively* engine swap threads just in case..to no avail.
Im working on clarifying with the vendor.
Im convinced the 4 bolt pattern was sent in error, unless i am wrong about catalytic bolt pattern..i believe its 2 bolt ahead and below cat not 4 and 2.

Thank you again for your feedback.
I see 2 different flange connectors within the links..
1st cat is 2bolt
the second cat link is 4 bolt..
Seems like a big diff from 2 to 4 bolts..do both fit or is it specific to manifold flange?
1999 escort zx2 s/r.

If you're referring to the difference in price.....well....California.

doesn't sound like it is an s/r. S/r only has two bolts for exhaust manifold and 99 s/r was available in one color only

California is pretty strict about aftermarket catalytic convertors, probably demanding that they be as good as originals.
Other jurisdictions I suppose aren't so picky.

Interestingly, if you look up "buy" prices from scrappers for convertors, OEM ones are typically one hundred dollars or more, aftermarket ones, in the tens of dollars.

So obviously OEM convertors have a lot more precious metal catalysts in them, and presumably function proportionately.

1999 escort zx2 s/r.
The 4 bolt cat is for the 2.0L SOHC and the 2 bolt is for the 2.0L DOHC. If you have a ZX2 then you have the DOHC motor and need the 2 bolt one. Both Federal and CA emissions versions used the 2 bolt flange. The guy you ordered from is an idiot.

since you mentioned it here in this post, dont mention the car is a 1999 escort zx2 s/r when ordering parts. That just confuses people. instead, you have to insist that it is the ZX2 and it is the DOHC version. Otherwise, just order parts for a 2002 ford ZX2. The counter people are stupid and will be stuck on the word escort and confused by the rest, especially the s/r part.

the only time the s/r part is important is when you are ordering more of the original yellow paint or are ordering the rear disc brake pads or ordering the rear disc brake cables. Everything else is the same so no point adding to their confusion.

so if you can, send that part back and get the correct part this time

Then either he's an idiot or his cataloging is seriously wrong. You can look up both the California and Federal converters on Rockauto and they both have the 2 bolt flange. Walker 82673 is the CA version and Walker 52284 is Federal. You can look at the emissions label on the underside of the hood to see what emissions it has. The Federal emissions version will have no mention of California on it where as the California version will say its compliant with both Federal and California.

again, this person is stupid, just return the part if you can and get the part from another source.

ebay is a good source because you can see the pic of the part you are ordering and wont have to deal with someone insisting a wrong part. I am attaching a pic of what the part you need will look like for the zx2.

The ends will look the same for every zx2 with no exception. Every zx2 had the same engine installed for the entire run so there is no different engine option and thus no difference in the catalytic converter used from 98-03

I ordered from ebay..the exhaust shop to be exact..the seller was more interested in convincing me that id misordered then in providing the correct part.. I did the *check if part fits vehicle* etc..even sent my vin and car deets..took screenshots..then my part came
I told the seller immediatly after it came that it was not what it said it was.
Ive spent the past month+
via emails and their delaying with dumb stuff like telling me i have a 2.4l etc trying to get the correct part..to no avail..now the return has expired..im sitting with a part i cant return or use..bad bad..

Dispute it with Paypal and Ebay anyway. If you opened a dispute with the seller through Ebay then they can see the messages you guys sent back and forth and see that the seller was stalling. Ebay themselves say that if you and the buyer/sell can't reach an agreement within 3 days then you can ask Ebay to step in and take action.

If you charged it on your CC lodge a complaint.
