I went to my very first autocross event today and won first place in H stock! Now before you get too excited you must realize that there were only 2 cars in H stock. Still, I did fairly well. After all, the other guy in my class (also a N00B) was driving an Audi 90 Quatro. I will get my times posted up as soon as they are posted on the scca website. Btw, I was driving my new Kia Sephia. It did pretty well but it could definatly use stiffer springs and a lower suspension setup, not to mention tires suitable for AutoXing. Anyway, just wanted to share the good news.

I know its been awhile, but the glen region website finally got everyone's times up for last month's autocross event. Just go to http://www.glen-scca.org/solo/2003/results20030427.htm and scroll down to the h-stock class. Also if you want to see the course for yourself, you can! The guy driving the Porsche Boster took video of the event. Just go to http://www.yeohbaby.com/movies/ax/2003/index.php and click on the mills pride files. (dial-up users beware).

There is another event coming up on Sunday at the Arnot Mall in Elmira, NY. I have know idea if I will be able to make it or not, but I will let everyone know either way.

I know the body roll is a bit of a problem, but remember I am running H-stock which means very few mods are allowed. Also, I simply can't afford to be putting any mods on right now. I plan on running the car stock for the rest of the season and maybe I'll have enough money next year to add some mods. What I'm going for this season is consistency. You see many people don't go to every event, which means if I go to all (or nearly all) of them, then I should place fairly well in the championship points.

The first autocross I went to was at a cabinet factory called Mills Pride in Sayre, PA. I did make it to the event at the Arnot Mall in Elmira, NY as well. I think I posted about it before. I only got third up there, but one of the drivers was more experienced (he drove a pontiac Fiero), and the other didn't hit as many cones as I did (he was in a 91 Accord). The course was really hard this time, alot of people didn't do as well as they normally do. Hopefully the next course won't be as bad.

One more thing. I know how everyone disses the honda folk and in Elmira I saw yet another reason why that is so. There was this Silver (don't know what year) Honda Prelude that was running. Although a nice looking car, it clearly did not belong at the track. You see the guy had lowered it, put huge rims on, and probably didn't opt for stiffer springs. He's lucky he didn't end up with larger fender flares from all the rubbing going on. Needless to say he left after his first run, he probably did wan't people to realize how much of a dumb*** he was.

Can anybody hook me up with how to get started in autoXing in NY? I've got the new couple weeks fairly free, and I'd love to at least try it out.

Congrats on the "win" matt!

I love seeing the toyota MR2's rip it up. If I ever get the money I think I'll buy one. :)

SCCA Region Websites

Check for the closest one of those to you. The websites usually have a schedule of events listed. Solo II = Autocross

You might want to check out NASA Northeast as well. NASA, in this case, is the National Auto Sport Association.. not National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
