For such a 'cheap' little car, the radio in my 'Scort' really put out; great bass. It's OEM Ford.

But all I get now, when I push the on button, is an illuminated display (but no text), and no sound.

Where to start with a diagnosis?

Is anyone else aware of a repair service that can handle these old radios?

I really have no desire to 'upgrade' to anything else.

I seen this before a few times and the fix is simple but I can never remember what the fix is.
The radios in the first gens are more or less the same as the 80s rangers and fox's, if you can't get help here try asking on a fox box mustang site.

I don't know about 1st gens but on a 2nd gen a touchscreen fits like it was meant to be there...

Open'er up. Got NOTHING to loose by doing so. Look for anything unusual. Figure out where the power is coming and where it's going. Probe to make sure each of the modules are being powered. Not saying that's the issue, but electrolytic capacitors, especially the "larger" ones, tend to age out and eventually require replacement.
