Well guys and gals, I finally broke down and did it. I bought a 2.0 Zetec engine from a junked 01 ZX3 Focus. So as soon as I install it I will own the first 1st gen ZX3 Escort that I know of. Woo hoo. I hope I´m not in over my head on this project. It´ll be pretty sweet to have 20 more horsepower under my hood.

Yes egt is Escort GT, or exhaust gas temperature, depending on the cotext it is used in.

As far as the engine goes, I got th engine with 23k miles, the wire harness, ECU, alternator, powersteering pump, and A/C compressor for $520 on ebay.

I´m that way when I get anything for my car, like when I bought my fog lamps, clear corners, speakers, & my replacement tail lamp assembles.

Make sure you keep track of all your steps so if one of us in the future wants to do the same mod we could. (You never know, I might run into a 1st gen GT somewhere for sale)

As soon as the engine gets here I will start a journal and take pics of the install. My parents have an awsome digital camera I can borrow from them, so I can put the pics right on the net. The biggest worry I have is the tranny. I think it will fit though. The mounting shouldn´t be toooooo hard I don´t think. My logic behind that is that the Focus also uses the 2.0 SPI engine which is a direct relative of the 1.9 that is in the 1st gens and 2nd gen LXs. The Zetec is also some what kin to the 1.9 as well, so I think mounting should go fairly easily. The tranny I think will bolt up to. The biggest worry I have is if the bolt pattern and input shaft on the 1.9 tranny is the same as the 2.0 tranny. I´m pretty sure the bolt patterns are the same because as I said the engines are closely related. Anyway, I will let you all know how it goes, and YES I am as giddy as a little school girl about droping this bad boy into my Scort. I am way looking forward to freaking out some Hondas as I fly off the line and leave them in my dust.

I was watching animal planet last night and as this cat was chasing down a rabbit in the snow (which eventually got away) it hit me...there is an animal out there called the "Lynx" it looks like a smaller but really furry lioness. I was wondering where Mercury got the name for the car. Now I know.

The project car was driving around and it began Escorting a Viper GTS when it broke down so the guy out test driving it said ´"hey let´s call it an "Escort!"´ hehe I dunno. That is a good question.
