What do you guys think it would take to get the 2nd gen 1.9L to run on par with the 1.9HO?

I know the 1.9HO has a better flowing head, but lets say we didnt rework the head on the 2nd gen just to save costs.

On a budget, what do you think it would require and cost to compete?
i mean i wouldnt wanna dump a ton into anything to make run high 16's...but for cheap enough i'd do it.

This is what i'd do to get close.

-Gen 1 Header.
-2 or 2.25 exhaust, no cat, dynomax muffler
-SPI TBI from wrecker
-Custom intake with K+N Cone
-UDP
-lastly a chip<--but that would blow the budget IMO
think it would be on par?

you're talking about 30 hp from a header, exhaust TBI and cone filter.

not gonna happen without going into the motor itself. higher compression pistons, PnP, cam, etc.

Do they even make chips that DO anything for the 1.9?

the 90 EGT 1.9HO made 108hp. thats a 20hp difference.

Yes they do make chips for the 1.9L

108hp to the wheels assuming 10-15% loss is about 92-95WHP

88hp becomes 77-79WHP

IMO you can get about 10-12 WHP from an Intake, Header, Exhaust, UDP and a chip would add some more.

Think about it
