Ok.....Here we go....

1) Ztec? Can it be done?
2) What about the 2.3 Turbo from a turbocoupe? (i can't ever remember if the turbo was the 4 banger or the six banger.)

I would stick to a SOHC if I could swap in the 2.3 but would rather have the DOHC from the Z motor. Opinions?

1. Yes anything can be done with enough time and money. Theres a guy that did put a ztec in a exp. Which is the same thing as the 1st gens, engine bay wise anyway. But its not a drop in swap by any means. He had to do alot of modding. Go over to exp.com for more info on that swap.

2. Once again yes it can be done. There is a guy around here that bought a 1st gen. With a 2.3 turob swapped into it. I think he bought it off of ebay a while back. I know hes around here i just cant remember his name right now. But im sure he will see this and chime in. And if he does, please man post some pics of that swap.
Without seeing his car, i have heard thats a hard swap as well. It would be cheaper and easier to turbo it. Or you could try and build a na monster like i did. Although i havent been to the dyno yet. I know that car is quick out on the street.

The 1G Zetec swap is very complex. Basicly nothing is compatible.

The 2.3 will mate to the Escort tranny, you will need to make your own passengers side motor mount.

The 3.0 V6 fits nice.

Why not the CFI block with the HO head with 2.3 computer/vam/injectors and a turbo? That combo has made about 300hp with the stock internals, if that is'nt enough power for you than you've got problems.

That might work. Iunno, 300hp isnt really alot to me. I guess since it IS a daily driver, it'll be ok.

a subaru WRX STi is AWD, I've ridden in a stock WRX, which is 227 HP, and that little beast was hard to keep in a straight line. 300 HP in a front driver without posi would just be nuts.

300hp not enough? What do you normally drive?
Normally a DSM, but the knock sensor went adioasoaihs so it blew up at the track. Sucked. I'll be building a 91 Eclipse GSX auto and shoot for 10's. Won't be that hard.

CFI block=1G Escort that's not a GT. They have dished pistons. And yes the GT head will bolt to it fine.

300hp in a 2800lbs (or 3000lb AWD) Eclipse is'nt the same as 300hp in a 2300lb Escort.
( I owned a mildly modded 95 GSX)
Those few hundred pounds make a noticeable differance.

Ah cool. I figured it'd be higher but I guess with the "lower performance" mated to a HO head it's not that bad. 8.5:1 seems pretty damn good for boosting. So how do I join the Anti Mega Squirt team lol..

If you want 9:1 then just use the GT HO block, if you want 8:1 than use the CFI block.

Use a 2.3 turbo ECU, VAM and injectors for your anti MS needs lol.

I'd be "that guy who bought the scort off of ebay" lol. The 2.3 swap is some what of a hack job to pull it off. If you are looking to still be able to handle well aftwards, i would stear away from the 2.3 swap. It's great for strait line, but not much after that. I'm still a noob when it comes to turbo's, i won't deny that. my friends and i should be getting along with the 2.3 swap into a 1st gen gt within the next few weeks. I can get some pix of the current setup, just email me at [email protected]. I hope to be more useful with information on the 2.3 swap in the spring when i have completed it myself.
