    Hello all,

New to this forum, looking for a little help. My 96 1.9 SOHC is setting a p0301 consistently when at operating temperature. It will run rough at an idle as well after it is restarted. Right before the misfire starts there will be a light upper end tapping noise that was never present before having my last oil change done. I had it towed back to the place I had my oil change performed and they said there was a history code and nothing was wrong with it. Same concerns as I was driving it home yesterday. I rechecked some recent work I had done, plugs, wires, and coil. All Motorcraft. They all seemed fine. I do not have a compression gauge, nor have I ever run a compression test. Is it probable/likely something went wrong at the oil change, wrong oil, wrong filter, etc. I already ordered a new car about three weeks ago, but it won't get here for another three-five weeks. Any suggestions?

    Pete

overheating with a misfire sounds like a possible head gasket failure. is there any smoke coming out of the tailpipe?
since you don't have a compression gauge or a coolant pressure tester, the next thing you could do is check your coolant and oil for cross contamination. let us know what you find out.
