1995 Ford Escort LX Sedan mechanical issue

I have a 1995 Ford Escort LX Sedan that is having mechanical issues, but not sure where to start with diagnosing the problem. When driving the car, it bucks driving down the road, doesn't downshift going up a hill, and when in overdrive it still bucks when not in gear. I replaced the Throttle Positioning Sensor, and the bucking still continues. What could be causing the issue and how could I go about fixing it?

When was the last time it had a tuneup (spark plugs and wires)?

This is actually my car doing this. My brother posted it on my behalf. Pextor, spark plugs and wires replaced 2 weeks ago. Were running on the stock ones from 1996. Replaced the Throttle Position Sensor. Have put 400 dollars of work into my beloved escort. has 110k miles on the odometer. Drive it like a grandma take it easy, and have replaced:
-CV AXLE both sides, Sway bar end links, valve cover gasket, struts, strut mounts, shocks. bought it used when it had only 107k miles on it. Speedmoeter is out on it. Assuming its a speedo cable gone bad.

Also Replaced the water pump, timing belt, and the serpetine belt.

Probably not causing this issue, but check for vacuum leaks. The EFE vacuum hoses are rotted away if they haven't been replaced at least once.

we are thinking it is vacuum related. Checking all the hoses, and apparently the cruise control function uses a vaccum of some sort?

Also spray out the throttle body with cleaner. I do mine quite a bit to maintain peak performance from the engine.
Hey guys, his speedometer does not work. Could this be a VSS issue? Just guessing because he seems to have done more than everything else to correct the problem. Otherwise, the PCM?
my speedometer is kinda screwy. it goes left to right a lot at high speeds and makes a buzzing noise. im thinking i would have to replace my instrument cluseter.
Does the car have a cable driven or electronic drive speedometer?
You can find out by coasting in neutral and turning the ignition off. If cable drive, the speedo will still work.
'95 Escorts have cable driven speedo's and Rebels seems to be functioning normally (sucks, doesn't it?). I think we can rule out the VSS.
Your Escorts instrument panel is pretty rudimentary and the Speedo can be removed from it. If you want to go through the hassle of removing the speedo, a half drop of synthetic light model locomotive oil on each speedo bearing quiets down the speedo for about 20,000 miles.

So if i understand you right Mark, you are saying with some oil on the SPEEDO CABLE, that will hush the noise up.....but what about the speedometer flopping all over the place over 45mph?
That aint normal. if its just a speedo cable needing replaced whats causing it, then its only 8 dollars from rock auto.
The noise is the speedometer, not the cable. Except for 2 or 3 of us, I think all the users on this site just put up with the jumpy noisy speedo's, they won't break.
i dont mind the noise Mark, its the floppy speedometer. I would like it to be accurate thats all.
I don't know how bad yours is, but Mr. Whites adds about 4 to 5 MPH when it starts rattling at about 55MPH.
