With the window rolled all the way down, the damn crank handle knob sits EXACTLY where I rest my knee. Totally irritating. I want to rotate the crank 180 degrees but I can't figure out how to remove the crank handle from the stem. I know theres some sort of retaining clip or some such nonsense but I can't see it and I don't know how to remove it. I probably need some $100 Escort-specific window crank tool.

I've never removed one from an Escort, but usually you just slide a rag under the crank. Then, work the rag back and forth. Then, pull the rag(and crank) away from the door. Like this pic.[IMG]

The rag trick wouldn't work on mine, I just used a torx bit to pop it off, It was easy to put back on

The rag trick works once you figure it out, but you have to make sure to inset the rag between the plastic washer and the handle. Mpull down on the rag and rotate the handle. Hopefully the rag will catch the clip if you do it right. Make take a couple trys good luck

I'll give the rag trick a try. For some reason though, my hopes aren't real high. For 6 bucks I should just buy the tool if I can find one here locally.

I have had two handles in the front that do not line up when the windows are closed so I tried the rag and it worked first time. Thanks!

There is a C clip inside of it and you get a flat tip screwdriver to pop it out. I think you have to pull it from the inside like where the rag is. I didn't think that would even work. I think the clip is only visible on the side you pop it out on.
